When I go to put my IP on my new engine, I need to set the two gears with the dots together when #1 cylinder is at TDP. I get that part, very simple and same as a gas engine. Now, there is that slotted adjustment for three IP bolts, what is all of that about? How do I set the timing with that? Do I need to move it like you would move a distributor in a gas motor? In that case, I need a timing light to watch my advance on the balancer, right? But how do you get the IP pulse to hook to a timing gun? A lot of questions. I am gonna look in FAQ for something but I just wanted to post this as a backup.

install at about halfway on the slots. This is close enough to start. The computer will make timing adjustments (via the stepper motor). That will let you run for long enough to check for leaks, and get to a dealer, or someone with a scanner to set the final timing.

OK, so I have a Matco 4000 scanner, I take it I just read my timing and get it the correct degree number by reading the live data on my scanner, OK.
I really wanted to check it mechancially though, with the balancer at idle and at high rpm, I wish I could do that too.

I get it now, I was just thinking inside the box at the moment:exactly: .

Thanks CowRacer, hey, like the pics, not as colorful as your motor though

IIRC,

There is some gizmo that lets you see the "pulse" of the injector line with your common, everyday timing light. Cant recall who makes 'em, or how much they are.

You could use that to check your "Mechanical Actual Timing" (<- my term,(c) 2005)

pics? what Pics? the head pinhole ones?
