What's up guys? Just got new injectors replaced on my 03' Duramax with 155K on it. What kind of injector/fuel/additive can I use to help keep them clean and keep them working for a long time to come. Have to ADMIT did not have money to fix this issue and add lift pumps and all the other fancy stuff.

Any advice. How often should I use it. I am in MN with crap BIO diesel sludge.

Thanks all!

Biodiesel is actually one of the best additives you can get as far as adding lubricity to your fuel. That's what I recommend.

You found out bio eats things so I guess you see the new diesel is low on lube help so go to the 2 stroke thing and throw a qt. in 20 gallons of fuel with your additive idea if you have that going. Notice the sound of the injectors at idle, fast idle and 2k rpm while you are under the hood. Now it's easy to know the 2 stroke oil quiets things and smooths out the system when you put enough in to help it. Just what we do on all ours it works. No bio and treated with 2 stroke fuel filters last alot longer too. Do this after new fuel filter is on. If injectors are clean and new it's a good time to do this check up.

If you are interesting in Amsoil products, let me know- we have a concentrate or a concentrate with cold flow improver (in my sig- contact me for cheaper pricing!), or a lot of people have had decent luck with Stanadyne.

The only issue I have with this is the ONLY 2 times I've ever gelled, I've used bio (had no choice either time- needed fuel and couldn't wait). First time was untreated, but second time was and still gelled, gets a little chilly up here!!!:D

Please refrain from passing free advertising to those that do not support our site. Our local Supporting Vendors that sell Amsoil can take care of us just the same and help this site to remain free.

As for gelling, we run b20 in the fleet and got to -26 ambient without a gelling issue last year. Up to last year bio was not regulated, now it is, so now that there is a standard, it is much better!

COLT 49-

Not to sound super duper naive but oil in the fuel? I know I have read about it before online but it reminds me of my dad using waste oil in his old Cummins when I was a kid. Just seems like with these new HI tech engines that engine oil in fuel would not work. I beleive you guys though, so what kind of oil? 2 stroke? Made by whom? Synthetic? What has worked for you? Do you mix it in first before you fuel so it mixes properly?

Thanks fellas

Most of us that use 2-stroke buy it at Walmart by the gallon. It's the "SuperTech" brand and is the cheapest 2-stroke around. Just get any TCW-3 rated 2-stroke and add it a 1:200 ratio, or about 16 oz per 25 gallon fill-up. Add it to the tank before putting in the diesel. It will mix better this way.

I want to try the two stroke oil thing in my truck. I also use PS in the gray bottle (white bottle soon) will it matter if I use both?

I use a mixture of the 2 (2 stroke & gray PS). Figure it cant hurt nothing, gray bottle for the cetane improvement and the 2 stroke for lubrication (since IIRC the PS didnt do as well in the lubricity test as the 2 stroke).

Okay I am going to give this oil thing a try, I cannot imagine sacking up for a new set of injectors AGAIN. Still hurts by the way...16oz to 25 gallons...got it...

Did I get the right stuff? If I did then I see the 16oz bottle was 2.09 and they have a gallon for 11.50. I guess I will be getting the gallon, for the fact it's cheaper and I need 22oz of it per tank.

That's it. Cheaper by the gallon.

Hey fellas-

Just smakced on 1100 miles on a hunting trip. Used 2 stroke the whole way. I avg about 15MPG at 80 MPH using the stuff. Tried one tank without it and got about 16.9 MPG at same speed. Any thoughts? How long do I have to use the stuff before I really notice alot of changes in smoothness? Thanks for the advice guys.

I got the same results. Everytime I used 2-stroke I lost mileage.
It helped a little when I stopped being so critical of the mix ratio and just put in 16oz per fill up which for me is about 20 gallons. I don't know why but mixing at a ratio below the 1:200ish mark seems to hurt mileage more.
I decided the slight drop in mileage was worth the lubricating effects of the oil since my truck obviously runs smoother and quieter with the oil in it. Sometimes though when I know I'm going to take a long road trip I do not mix in the oil to bump my mileage.

I use soyshield and probably gives me .5 miles improvement, much quieter.

No 2 stroke.... Bio is the best way to go.

I use Opti-Lube XPD, and have since the first time I put any diesel in the tank.
I bought mine with 89k on it, previous owner put in nothing but diesel. As you can see from my sig I put injectors in at 109k. I will say this though, the truck starting running smoother within an hour of adding Opti-Lube, mileage went up, and in single digit temps has always started fine.

I agree lost MPG with 2 stroke but I hope that the extra lube increases my injector life. I use it in my 06 and 04. Just put injectors in the 03 for the third time This is the only truck that does not get the oil on a reg basis. But I told my guys the have to on every fill up. Hope the listen!
