Unless you plan on going over 500 rwhp they are not really needed. For the money most CAI systems cost you get little to no improvement in performance and very little drop in EGT's. You could do eather the PPE or Kennedy airbox mod depending on what truck you have, but you don't have your sig filled out.

You don't need an aftermarket intake. Save the money for something else. The aftermarket intakes don't do the same thing as the OEM system - they don't come close to filtering as efficiently or last as long. Some even cause problems - those with oiled elements foul the MAF sensor.

I also replaced my stock 3.5" exhaust with a 4" CAT back GM Performance system (a premo 409 stainless steel system) and didn't really notice any gain in power or mileage.

The aftermarket part that did help was a set of Bilstein 5100 shocks. They took the neck snapping jounce out of freeway seams and potholes.
