As I understand it, the price available under this promotion is the GM Employee Price (GMS) shown on the dealer invoice plus 5%. Is that correct?

How then does my dealer's salesman know what to charge me for a truck which needs to be factory ordered instead of being sold off of the lot?

Excellent question!

My '04 GMC Dually nears and this is a very important subject for me. I was quoted $500 over invoice and am not ashamed to haggle further.

I'm looking at an invoice for my '03 and wondering which one is the GMS price. Is it the "Approximate Wholesale Finance Credit" price? If so, 5% over this price would be about $50 over invoice and save several Benjamin's, if I used GM in the driveway.

Thanks,

Jeff

Well your dealer doesn't know exactly what to charge you until the vehicle is built and an invoice sent. This is due to usually minor changes in the price of components in the vehicle, sometimes just out right price increases from GM.

So, the usual procedure is to talk about how much over invoice you are agreeing to pay. The dealer usually will show you the invoice if that's the case, and I wouldn't buy one from a dealer who wouldn't show it to me. Those used to be really secret, but not anymore.

As for the GM In the Driveway certs, those are voluntary on the part of the dealer whether he accepts them or not. The information on them clearly indicates you should inquire of the dealer if he will accept one on your very early visits and negotiations of the price.

As for attempting to re-negotiate the price after you have agreed to a figure, well..... How would you react to the dealer raising the price after it arrived knowing he could sell it to someone else for more money?

I am a GM employee and the only way we know for sure if we are getting our true discount is to go to our GM website, alot of dealers will show you what looks to be an invoice, but in truth it is only a print out of what is on the truck or car, they cant show a GMS sale price on an invoice as that was negotiated with the UAW and GM, so when they say this is the price an employee gets they could be lying. They used to pull that with us that is why we know have an area on our site that we can put a vin number in and it will tell us our exact GMS price and retail. also there is no longer a bigger discount for ordering you get the same discount by taking off the lot or ordering. If you are looking at a truck on the lot let me know what dealer (zip code) and a vin and i can tell you what the real GMS is, or tell me what option and i can build it out and get you a price also.

IIRC, the GM supplier discount is 4% over what the GM employee discount is.

I hope it is 4%, but someone said that it had been raised to 5%. If anyone knows for sure, please post, as I'm off to see the GMC dealer tomorrow morning (Sat).

When I applied for the program the website stated 4% over GM employee discount price. I just checked the website again and it says the supplier discount price will be listed on the invoice. I guess it has changed since then.

If anyone needs the link, here it is:

Check for postings by "HarryK", he did quite a bit of research on this and said the percentage had been raised to 5%, which was just a little over invoice IIRC.

The only advantage to a savy negotiator, is that GM restricts the LAM (Local area advertising) fees to 1% instead of 1.5%, and it prohibits DOC fees.

But it is voluntary for the dealers, you need to ask early on if they'll accept one.

Zeeb, and Kal-el good posts..

Been lurking here for a while. Took delivery about 12/10/2003 and my Supplier price with the driveway card was raised to GMS +5%. The other trucks I was looking at were 4% over GMS. A call to GM marketing confirmed this. However, there appear to be some excellent insiders here for very current information. Thunder, use the info these guys share with you and always verify the dealer's statements. Got a great story for you guys about my pre-delivery when I get a shot to type it in. Remember, the driveay program says they have to give you a copy of the invoice. The prices are all there and NO DOC fee. Two dealers tried to charge my friends the DOC fee and it took a call to GM to tell them to knock it off. As for the ADV on the invoice, do the best you can. Everything is negotiable and the sales manager can put a line through whatever figure your telling him you won't pay.

If you have the card then just walk out. You can go anywhere to get the same deal.

Good Luck
