By doing this will that really improve mileage?

Ben,

Well, I read their tech info and based on my limited Organic Chemistry classes and my limited knowledge of Crude Oil refining. I would say that for diesels, it would not help as much as they make it appear.

On gas engines of certain vintages and fuel distribution systems it might help a little.

They mix science and marketing, which I believe is called Voodoo science. You can tell that by the vague way they describe how exactly the product works.

If you don't know, gasoline is a blended product. It is made by blended various different light end products of crude oil. Think of gasoline as something like LP Gas. LP Gas is also a blended product made with a specific heating content, (BTU/lbm). I don't remember exactly what light ends are used but you can study up on that if you want to know more.

Diesel, on the other hand is called a distillate fuel. Instead of blending various light ends together to come up with a certain flash point and burn characteristic, Distillate fuels are fractions of crude oil that are drawn off of the Cracking tower that correspond to various boiling points.

Distillate fuel starts at Naphthalene, (I think), and goes down to Bunker oil, (looks like molasses). Diesel's by their design are not very sensitive to the exact components in the fuel they use. That's why our trucks will run on Bio-diesel, Kerosene, #2 fuel oil, etc. As long as the stuff will ignite when injected into the cylinder, it will work.

My only comment on that product is, if it works so well, why doesn't the auto manufacturers use it? Just one of them would lend creditability to its use. If in real world usage, (not some EPA lab test or setting on the dyno), it would be beneficial to have on the vehicle, then I think one of the car companies would have them on their cars, specially the guzzlers. Anytime you can increase the mileage of a large fuel drinker, that will equate to more sales. Honda is always looking for stuff to increase efficiency of their cars.

So, I rest my case. I think the cost benefit analysis doesn't pass the sniff test. Plus, I think that product company is wildly optimistic in their claims. One dyno run with one Dmax is not statistically valid for making the claim that all Dmax's will see a 14% increase in mileage over all operating environments.

Snake oil, sorry.

Dave thanx alot! You explained it very well. I saw it at another diesel site and it was new to me.

Thanks

Your're welcome.

Remember the golden rule, If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

dont waste your money, Tried one of a Hayabusa, dyno testing and all that. No enhancement at all......................!!!
