I have now owned my rig for over 3 and a half years. In all my life, I have never driven a vehicle such as this. AWESOME..!!
Yea there are some minor irritants Like:

Tranny lines
Intermediate Steering shaft

But other than that, not a stitch of trouble other than wear items like front bearings, 1 CV shaft (lost a boot)

Yea, Ive spent some coin on this thing...initially on those things that would lengthen its life cycle: Dual Oil filtration, triple fuel filtration-lift pump, coolant bypass & EGR block/stick. And then later on, some bling and comfort stuff....lately its been nothing..not a lot of coin to spend these days and really not a lot I want to do anyway.

I'm now stting at nearly 200k and loving this thing like the day I bought it. Just a great piece of equipment.

Ya know, when I first came on this forum, I didnt know a PPE from a CV from a MAF...I knew Jack $hit. It's been a great place for learning and I'm appreciative of the many friends and the many times other members have helped and offered good advice.

.. in a weird mood tonight. Just quit my job of 10 years (wow...kinda surreal ya know.??)..but its all good.
.. leaving Ontario (forever, aint ever coming back either)- Alberta Bound..thank you Lord.!!

yeehaw,

Theo

You miss the Flames that much ! Hope the move back is a smooth one.

I have to agree on the truck my LBZ seems to run better with more miles on it. I did see a new 2011 LML the other day and it looked very tempting.

Great to hear! I have to agree that my LBZs are the best light duty trucks I've driven to date. The best testament is wife, who was not very warm to the idea of even giving up her Yukon Denali for the 2500. Today, I have to ask her if I can drive my dually since she's always driving it.

Agreed. I researched, test-drove, agonized, pondered, interviewed every truck owner I knew, researched some more, and test-drove some more in deciding which truck to buy. Finally decided on a Duramax, but you never know how something will actually do until you buy it and live with it for a while.

After 9 months of doing everthing I could ever need to do with my LBZ, I can honestly say it has exceeded my expectations. It is my favorite vehicle I've owned -- not sure I can say "best," simply because my 'Burb and other vehicles have been great, too, but I look forward to driving the LBZ every time I get to do it.

I too love my truck and enjoy driving when I can. I have had it since it was new and have right at 60,000 miles on it. I am now in the process of adding an Edge with attitude tuner, egr block, finger stick, pvc bypass, and egr coolant bypass. The only issues I have had was the front axle seal leaking when I picked it up and the trans lines leaking at around 40,000 but both are fixed now. Over all I would still do it again.

I know what Steakman is talking about when he says no problems only minor problems! My LBZ has never been in the shop and I have 260,000 miles with over half of those miles towing trailers. I have the usual intermediate steering clunk, replaced one front hub assembly (I slid into a curb), u-joints and a carrier bearing.....that's it! No extreme extra maintenance or costs as I use Rotella oil, baldwin filters, amsoil transmission fluid and no extra's except a 4" catback exhaust which I believe is one reason I have never had turbo issues. I've heard of people blowing turbos but the common factors with this seem to be hauling too much weight withOUT improved/added exhaust and hot rodding too much (go figure). I plan on keeping her another 200,000 miles.....(pretty sad when I'm waiting to change my antifreeze (for the first time) when my original waterpump decides to go out)

Great thread Steakman...I also LOVE MY LBZ.... Although I must admit I've had issues with this truck. I had a mouse eat a hole in my under hood insulation and I also had a courtesy lamp go out. :p:

Might consider ripping out the underhood insulation blanket. They get soaked with oil vapors etc. and will catch fire on heavy towing or running when underhood temps climb out of safe area. There is also a formed liner on firewall that does the same too. You can buy underhood foilback reflective heat mat with adhesives on it cheap. Jegs.com sells it for $50 hood kit and other kits for same area price. Doesn't burn like the factory stuff. Sled pullers are first to report it but it's coming out over time with the PCV reroutes and EGR blockers if things leak exhaust etc. Just a truck have to work on it.

Agree totally. These trucks really are great. There are people that get the lemons, but that is going to happen with any vehicle. I've owned all three brands and this is by far my favorite all-around truck. I wouldn't trade it for anything else. Glad to see so many are having the same experience.

Oh, ditto on the tranny lines.

Purchased my LBZ new and now have around 45,000 miles. My only complaint is that I don't get as much seat time in it as I would like. This is unquestionably the best truck I have ever owned bar none. I had the transfer case encoder motor and steering shaft replaced just before it went out of the 36,000mile part of the warranty but that is the total extent of the repairs in 3 1/2 years.

BTW, good luck on your life changes!

Well just an update:

We (oldest daughter & I) left Barrie Ontario last night at 7:15pm....601 km later and at 2:30 in the AM landed in Sault Ste MaRIE...BAGGED.! Today we made it to Dryden - 1060 km and called it as I was getting a bit buggy in the eyes..

I am pulling a POS U-Haul 6 X 12' Tandem axle trailer with all the garage goodies, cpl of suitcases, ski gear and my Clubs (hope I get to play at least an 18 before the snow flies..!!). The Garage is now MT and that makes life significantly easier for my wife who is holding down the fort along with my youngest daughter in Barrie while we attempt to sell the house.

I'll likely make another thread about U-haul..as it so deserves...man oh man.

But I will say this..TransCanada Hwy # 1 in Ontario is 2 lane. 90km posted Spd limit. most normals drive at 105.. & being able to pass a slow transport with a loaded trailer behind with ease is, as it always is...priceless..!!

Tomorrow another 1150km to Regina or Swift Current and hopefully will have time to post on the continuing adventure..

Cheers guys - great replies - thanx for the well wishes - & dont tell anyone, but things are definitely heating up in the Cdn oil patch...and we need TRADESPEOPLE..BIG time.!!!

Personally, I can't even think of ever replacing the old girl. Especially after looking at the prices..... ouch!

My home town (which I left 41 years ago:eek:). Welcome back to the western half of Canada, Theo.

I had a mouse eat a hole in my under hood insulation and I also had a courtesy lamp go out. :p:

I was in a GM dealership getting a new intermediate steering shaft put in the Suburban a couple weeks back, and there was a Tahoe in there, some critter had really made a mess out of his insulation and made quite a nest under the hood. I guess he left the truck parked for months over the summer! All the techs were over taking pictures of it and stuff.

By the way, I love my truck even more when I'm on other brand-neutral forums and see PSD problems pop up on a weekly basis. I'm on RV.net a bunch, and I swear, every week, someone is asking for help with their 6.0. Kind of scares me, how close I was to buying a 6.0!

Well, we made it safely to Calgary. As for that POS u-haul...what a joke that company is. Gotta say it was nice to see the highways in saskabush..GREATLy imporved and speed set at 110kmh as well. SWeet.!!

now to sellthe home in Barrie. we priced it right...just need the right person to come along. |I|'ll likely take a loss on it...but staying was not an option.

The best opportunities lie in the west and besides if the SHTFan ... Calgary is 3500 feet above sea level ... so, go ahead, bring on global (w)arming and glacier melt.!! we should do ok. :D

Seems S Ab is getting their first perma Chinook now..its been quite warm for these climes (55-60F), and as a result, golf is on the Friday Aft agenda.! We have had snow on the ground here in the past so going to play a round in mid Oct is kinda nice.

Cheers,
Theo

No real major complaints about mine. GM replaced the motor at 2400 miles due to the motor eating four glowplugs. It's been the piddly crap that drives me bonkers.

Bought it new 4 years ago, just rolled over to 20,000 miles with no problems.
Don't drive it much but when I do I've got a smile on!:)
