I have the same problem. White smoke at idle, sometimes quite a bit. Clears up after take off. Truck run good otherwise. No coolant or oil loss.

Does anyone know why you get white smoke and not black smoke when your injectors are going bad?

Actually it's white because it's pushing unburned fuel out the exhaust. It's not black because the fuel isn't being burned, just pushed out the exhaust. Basically what is happening is the truck is commanding x amount of fuel at idle, the injectors are starting to have issues sealing fully so there's a little extra fuel going into the cylinders. When you drive down the road the truck is commanding much more fuel than at idle, so that little extra is a much smaller % over what is being commanded, and you don't notice it. Like people stated a common issue with the LB7 trucks. Bosch has come out with a updated injector that takes care of the issue.

My truck has recently started this as well, I currently have 195 k miles. How much does this usually run to get fixed? How long can you run like this? Will it cause more serious damage if not repaired soon?
The reason I ask is I just paid 2k to have a new transfer case installed this week.

Thanks

When we install all 8 injectors it ends up being $3100. A lot of people will run with the smoke at idle issue for quite some time. Sometimes it just stays pretty much as it is sometimes it quickly gets worse. Some people experience hard starting because of this issue progressing. I'd say you're safe to run with it for a little while but something you want to keep a close eye on and if it starts getting worse, get it taken care of quickly.

Same here. I have my Duramax running with smoke at idle. When I begin driving, there is a big puff of white (grey) smoke with the strong diesel odor too. I know its in injectors, but others have been saying the CP3 pump is to blame. I am gonna get a new set of injectors very very soon. I hope this will solve the smoke issue. I love the truck, it gets very good mileage and tows like a diesel would. and with 400,000 miles on the clock, its paid itself over and over.
