If my 2003 chevy 2500 hd duramax sits for two weeks it will not move for 20 seconds after putting it in any gear. If it sits three days it will barely move for 12 seconds and then ok. If used every day does not do this. General Motors said this is normal but I do not think so. Can anyone offer any help. Truck is 2 years old with 22,000 miles. GM WILL NOT HELP.

The fluid in the convertor drains back after sitting for a while. I'm not sure if this has been fixed in later years.. I'll have to look at the front support part numbers for 2003 and then look at the later years to see if there were any revisions.

Hope this helps,

Brayden

I have the same problem with my 2004. Read my post on 7/23 and read the last response by Max Power. He provides some info for the dealer to look at.

I've had this happen after my truck ('03) was sitting for a while (several days) when I was out of town. At least now I know why...

What's interesting is I've NEVER had it happen when it's been sitting at home (1800 feet), but it has occurred when left at the airport or elsewhere which were close to sea level. Seems odd, probably just a coincidence.

Sometimes it is referred to as "loss of prime", but it is the "Converter drain back" problem cited inthe TSB.

If you let the truck warm up a bit after starting after a long down time and befor putting it in R or D, you will not experience the problem.

Cheers.

Does anyone know what long term problems, if any, could happen to a allison 2000 transmission with the torque converta drain back problem since GM will not make repairs? Will the problem get worst?

Just for the heck of it, try one extra quart of fluid. This problem does not happen near as much on '03 and later Allys. Transgo addresses this problem in their shift kit using oem factory springs on the converter regulator valve. There might have been a bad batch of springs mixed in at GM.

The Allison trans is made for commercial vehicles, if you let it sit for days the convertor drains back. There are bulletins out there for corrections, Allison SAYS, it is a commercial vehicle, if it sits then run it for 5 minutes and then drive. If you try to go too soon the check engine lite comes on and you stuck in 2nd gear and sometimes no reverse
