I have the same problem but it first started out this summer as the ac would blow cool on the driver side and warm on the passenger side, once and a while it would work fine. finally had it checked and the dealer replaced some actuator and it worked fine for a while and now i only have cold a/c and no heat, so I guess its back to the dealer at some point, real pain in the butt.

Ditto on the actuators. My 2003 Yukon has an actuator down. It first manifested a problem by faintly clicking when the control was set to blow only from the dash vents. Then, when the actuator quit the A/C would only blow out the defroster, no matter what.

Your A/C distribution module has three actuators. The first moves doors to direct the air up, down, front. That's the one that failed on mine. Remove the lower duct that serves the driver's footwell. Then, you can reach up above the gas pedal and feel around for the wire harness. The thing it plugs into is the actuator. There's two screws holding the actuator in, 6mm hex. The lower one is easy to remove. The upper screw,...well then. The quickest way ( as in not removing the whole dashboard, upper, middle, lower, upper vent plenum, steering column, elecrical center, BCM, and cast dashboard support ) is to grind out a 1/2" semi-circle in the cast metal support in order to get a small screwdriver or ratchet on the hex.

It sounds like yours is the actuator that is accessible from the lower passenger side. Remove the beauty cover, then the lower duct. Again, follow the wire to the actuator. Two 6mm screws and she's out.

The third actuator requires removal of the dash bezel, upper dash pan (the one you stack paperwork on!), dash vents, and the dash vent plenum. The first time it could take a couple of hours. If you do attempt it take your time. Don't rush, and don't force anything. The whole thing either snaps in place or is held by philips screws or hex heads.

What about the passenger side grab bar, you ask? Well, that's easy once you know how. Here's how to remove the passenger grab bar:

1. Remove the two dash vents on the passenger side. These will just pry out from the front.
2. Look into the space where the vents were. On the rightmost vent, look slightly up and to the left in the hole. You'll see a small white rectangle. On the leftmost vent look up and to the right. You'll see a matching small white rectangle.
3. Put one hand in each hole.
4. Press the rectangles in toward each other while simultaneously pulling back on the grab bar.
5. Presto! the bar slides right out.

Turn off the A/C controls, Pull the HVAC/ECAS fuse under the hood and the HVAC1 in cab fuse for 1 minute.

Then replace, start the vehicle and wait at least 2 minutes before adjusting anything. This will allow the system to reset. Sometimes this works.

I replaced the actuator under the dash right about the hump for the tranny. Heat works great again

This seems to be the same problem I'm having with my truck- how much is the actuator you replaced to get the drivers' side heat working again? How hard was it to replace?

Did you still have air moving out of the drivers side vents? I still get air, but it's cold (ambient temp), passengers' side is hot.

Thanks!

Got mine through a buddy that works at the dealer so got a little discount. Was right around $160. Very easy to replace. 2 small bolts and a plug. Takes maybe ten minutes

And yes I did still have air coming out of the driver side vents.

Another Buffalo Duramax owner here with the same problem. My truck is the New Body 2007 though. Any tips on how to go about replacing things?

Might be the same part. Not sure though. I can take a look on my sisters 2008 and let you know
