how can i tell if i got the lly engine. i bought the truck jan 3, 2004.

The easiest way would be to open the hood, look at the engine. In particular, pay attention to the valve covers. If the valve covers are smooth and their are four small diameter tubes going through the center, then you have the LB7. On the other hand, if the valve covers look "sculpted" and you see the end of the injectors protruding though, then you have the LLY.


Look at the following pictures of the LLY and compare your valve covers to it.

It was also posted somewhere about reading the VIN number. May want to search for that post.


You can also look inside the glove box. There is a sticker in there that lists all the equipment codes that were included when your truck was built. You should find either LLY or LB7Edited by: OC_DMAX

Check your VIN.


Eighth digit of the VIN. 1=LB7 2=LLY
