Here is my 05 Maxx with new 305's and chrome 16X9 Helo Guns. Little trimming of the front plastic on bumper and a little holding the emergency brake cable out of the way (zip ties worked well) - hope the pics work. LOVE the way it turned out.

What's the backspacing on those wheels? Looks good, why did you go with firestones?

hotncold

I think the backspacing is 5.5 inches - and i liked the way they looked - they are super quiet on the highway and the price was right - 152 a piece mounted and balanced and installed.

You know I hear this from a bunch of people but to tell you the truth I have had great luck from Firestone tires. The Steeltex are some of the longest lasting, truest, and best driving tires I have ever owned. While I do think Firestone had an issue with Ford (which by the way I think is more of Ford's fault than Firestone's) I think their most recent tires are some of the best out there. ;)

Nice truck and those wheels and tires are very cool. I had Firestone Steeltex AT's on the K3500 I just traded in for my new Silverado 3500 and I got well over 40k miles and there was probably another 5k miles left on them. I would rotate them every 4 to 5k miles (I think that is key). I would buy Firestones again, they're good tires in MHO.

and the best part of these tires like i said is the ride - they are quiet and they are very inexpensive - i couldnt pass them up

did you turn your bars up any? i'm getting ready to put new tires on my 04 and am undesided as to weather i want 285's or a 33x12.5.

noreaster

Usually they are the same height, 305's are an inch wider. Some 305's are E rated vs. same tire in 285 is a D rated. Also more $$$ for 305's.

hotncold

Yep - had to crank them up a good bit - the ride is about the same as when i was running the tires and rims the truck came with - I like the look of the 305's a little more than the 285 - that little bit wider on the 305's, imho, looks a little more like a truck of this caliber should look like...

I have to agree with you, I wish I had gone with 305's but the rims I have would not work out with 305s. So 285s it is until I change rims, think Im going to go with the guns, they look sweet.

thats surprising, with them stock steeltex tires i got terrible wear, and terrible traction, i almost wadded my truck on a uphill steel deck bridge once in cold wet weather, terrible traction in rain, ABS coming on with hard stops in the rain. i cant think of anything i liked about them except tossing them in the trash and getting BFG's. cant rember the last time my abs hit except on glare ice since i swapped tires or had a painc stop due to stupid drivers. different results for different people i guess. i just didnt like the steeltex tires, i think firestone makes some other tires that are OK though.

i think its funny that alot of people bag on firestones but then run bridgestones!?

HotnCold, I have question for you. How do the 305s affect the acceleration of the truck? Is it about the same as 285s (since they're basically the same height)? Also, is the speedometer off about the same as 285s? Thanks.

hotncold

i dont know about the 285's - my truck had the 245's from the factory - the speedo is off about 6-7 mph ( slower ) at 70 mph -

You guys SUCK! It kills me to see all the options you have with 16" wheels and tires! I've actually gotten a set of 17" wheels that STILL wouldn't fit over my brake calipers.. The wheels I have now just barely fit and I'm having a horrible time finding a 33" tire that's not on backorder.
Oh well, at least I can stop my truck faster!!:ro)

Thanks. I guess if I do that, I'll get one of those programmers to fix the speedometer, that's just too much off for me.

The edge w/ attitude has a speed limit program that lets you put in the size of the tire - to 35" i believe - and it displays the corrected mph on the programmer - Mine is mounted on the pillar - so its easy to see the correct mph...

Just curious how much does it change your fuel mil. going from 245s to the 285's or in some cases 305's? I am going to go up in tire size just trying to decide what size to go to and still keep the fuel mil in check.

as far as the fuel mileage is concerned - its a little hard to tell - im always messing around with the programmer - but id say an average of highway ( lots of big hills ) 70-75 mph and city driving - im getting 16-17 mph - without the correction ( the speedo being off ) - its a load better than my v10 ford got (8-9)
