I've got an '03 HD2500 D'max 75k miles. It is in the shop for the third time for seemingly the same problem. It cranks but will not start. The first time to the shop for this problem they said it was a loose plug. The second time they said after the fuel filter was changed it started (this was six weeks ago). Tuesday of this week while out of town, in a down town parking garage, it fired up...drove about 100 ft then died. Never to start again. The dealer thought it was the fuel control module...didn't work....then he thought it was the crankshaft positioning switch....no word on that yet. This is the 3rd time I have been left stranded by this truck and have had to have it towed to the dealer each time. Now the truck is 175 miles from home at a dealer.

Anyone with similar experience so that I can help the so-called "Trained" GM mechanics.

Choose your words carefully. Many of the guys on this site that can help you ARE "so-called "trained" GM mechanics".

You are right... No offense intended to those on the sight. It was a frustrating remark toward the local mechanic (singular). That is why I posted the question hear to get better info.

My appologies....

If the truck started after changing the filter (dealer primed all the air out) and lasted six weeks it could be a small air leak on the supply side taking a while to show symptoms. Try to prime the fuel filter when truck won't start. If it turns out to be injectors I think the General covers you to 200,000 miles . Good luck and welcome.

When my truck was hard starting, I took it to the dealer. They diagnosed
it as bad Cam shaft sensor, then rechecked, and replaced the crank shaft
sensor also. Truck never stopped on me, but I had to crank it for several
minutes b/4 it would fire and run.
I would guess fuel line leak also. If it started and ran and quit, the fuel
line ran dry. Open the bleeder valve, and try pumping on the primer pump.
If it's squirting diesel fuel, that is not the problem. Be sure to close bleeder valve. If your not getting fuel, you have a leak somewhere. You
would be able to see the leak under the truck, if it is a leak. Good luck.

Once it died, it never started.

After it died, I primed it a number of times and no start. There was no fuel leak under the truck either.

After changing the fuel module it was also primed numerous times...no luck.....I received word tonight that the crankshaft sensor was replaced and it did not cure the problem.

If anyone is interested........I Finally got my truck back. It was the connector to the module that sits on the right valve cover.

I had the same thing when my Juice 4.6 went south. Caused a communication failure with the ECM and it would hard start then no start. Took the Juice off and it fixed itself. Took it to the dealer and they reset the ECM. I plugged in my new Juice 4.81 and no problems since. I took wire ties and wrapped them around all of the connectors on top of the right valve cover so they wouldn't vibrate loose...My $.02..Jim
