: Fuel mileage
latemodelracer2 07-28-2005, 03:40 PM I was wondering what everyone else is getting with there LLY 4500 trucks. I dont know exactly how to figure it on my truck or how much it even holds. I also have a predator on the 45 hp tow tune.
On a side note i know it will only go somewhere between 250-300 miles on a tank running 70-75 on the interstate. I was wondering for my trip to texas in the next week or so if i could take a plastic fuel container (55gal) and put it up on the bed and strap it in. Fill it up at the truck stops and then not have to pull in a stop just pump it out when i need it at like arest area or something like it. Is this illegal or will i be fine doing this?

i have a legal tank that was on a service truck of mine. Where is the best place to tap into the fuel fill line? I notice there is a smaller line that is likely a over flow? Can i put a T on it and run the line from the transfer pump to it?

Hi latemodelracer2,

Is that stock programing? Im pulling a 24' trailer to texasa this week with around 8500-10000 lbs in it so i figure ill be close to your 7.5-8 Im not sure if the predator is helping my mileage or not. I guess ill find out.
JohnOH327 08-02-2005, 04:29 PM I get about 9-10 miles when towing, 13-14 miles empty. If I didn't have a lead foot, I might get better MPG. John

Hi Latemod,
That is with the programmer. Pacific's.
Towing I am using level 1 "tow mode", empty - level 3. We have been on a long vacation and I have been following the mileage close every tank. The worst mileage is on the freeway at about 70ish. The best, up the 101 coast highway..35-55 mph. Today I got the worst 6.9. Freeway, slight headwind.

latemodelracer2 08-05-2005, 11:54 PM Well I will see what i get when i head out. I usually cruise @74-75 so i dunno what to expect. ALso I watched my pyro today just crusising. It was riding at 80o-900 @ 70-75 mph is that good? ALso when i hook my trailer up how much will the temp increase because of the weight.
chtucker 08-06-2005, 01:15 AM 10.5mpg around town, 5500 4x4 11' steel flatbed...5.13 gearing, 10,000 feet above sea level.
4400 miles on the truck, I never had it on the highway.

Hi Latemodelracer,
800-900 is good but it depends where you put your probe. Is is on the exhaust manifold - pre turbo? You really notice the difference on the temps when you are pulling a grade up hill. Oh, generally, a couple hundred degree higher. I have been running about 1100 @ 60 and about 1200 at 70.

latemodelracer2 08-06-2005, 01:36 PM My sender is mounted post turbo due to a past problem with a pre setup. Ill have my predator with me so if i have to i will load the stock program in. It seems there a lot of people running high egts on the 40 hp LLY predator.
techprof1 08-07-2005, 01:45 AM It can be as much as about 300 degrees +- post turbo temps. There is quite a lot if you do a search about that. I remember reading something that was posted about comparing two different temps with a pre/post temp. You definately want to know that difference. I know that if I am at 5000 feet or higher elevation, I can quickly go to 1400...which is too high.

FireandFleet 08-07-2005, 09:12 PM Before I loaded the truck I was getting 15.5 - 16.5 in town. but after loading it down I now get 9.8 - 11. I have yet to pull my trailer I say I will loose another 1 - 3 mpg.

I searched but didnt find a direct comparison just people saying pre was better but no reason why. All i really want to know is what is the most post trubo i want to go. I run this setup on my f350 and have on the last 4 i have owned with good results but just need to know what the limits are.
JohnOH327 08-07-2005, 09:50 PM I think the temps would be higher post than pre. Wouldn't the gases generate heat passing thru the turbo? Just my 2 cents worth. John
turbotom 08-08-2005, 07:10 PM 2005/ allison. I get 14 running over Donner.with cruise set at 65 empty. That is with utility boxes full of tools & 99 gal trans tank. 144 gal total. Stock, no chip or any other mods. Will be pulling a 36' 5th wheel shortly. Expect about 10.:)
