I had just bought a 2003 Chevy 2500HD it needs an exhaust on it i want to keep 1 single pipe in the stock location, it has a k&n intake and a hypertech progam in it can anybody tell me if a 4 or 5 inch would be better and if one would be available for around 500 or less

If you check with the vendors on here they often offer smokin deals!!! You really only need a 4", unless you like the sound of the 5". One word of caution- watch the KN filter closely. DON'T over oil it, and keep your MAF sensor cleaned. A lot of people have had issues with the KN filters letting in a lot of dirt (inside of the tube is filthy!!!). Some people have run it and had no issues. I had it run on mine with the intake kit, but changed the filter out when I pulled it off to check it as I'd heard others complain about it- my intake tube was filthy as well.
Also, WELCOME TO THE SITE!!!! There is a wealth of info on here- if I can do anything for you, don't hesitate to PM me!!!
Thanks!

Go down to the list of supported vendors here on the site and check their web sites. Not priced any for a long time. Only dealt with Nate from Performance Truck Products for my exhaust. Only thing i see is be careful not to over oil the K&N air filter when you clean it. They can screw up the MAF sensor. Also since the Duramax pulls so much air in over time the K&N can feather out or thin out on the filter media. The majority feeling on K&N filters is not to use them. Stay with a dry filter.
Welcome to the site and enjoy that truck. Lots of good reading here plus don't forget to check the many sticky post in each of the varies sections on the forum here. Also the search tool is great tool too.

The oiled filters mess with the MAF sensor is a lot of the problem. Dry filters have been better with the truck. You can go with a Delco/stock filter (presuming you just have a KN drop in filter and not an intake system), or if you'd like PM me and I can get you a price on an Amsoil Nanofiber Dry Air Filter (http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?Code=EAA123&zo=1747262) that is warranted for 4yrs/100,000 miles- for well less than retail. Even if you do have an intake system on it I can still find a similar filter to the KN with the same filter style and warranty.

The factory AC Delco air filter is the best you can buy. Don't waste your money on anything else.
