Does anyone have any ideas how to mod the stupid looking cone tip on the dpf trucks. I will be installing my rock gaurd when pulling and i need to redirect the tip out the side instead of the rear.

Im not sure, but I believe your thread will be moved by a mod to the exhaust section. Do a search in that section

i believe that tip has a purpose.

i think when it regens it helps pull out the hot exhaust .

im sure you could figure something out to where you can still use the tip for its intended purpose
maybe cut it about mid tip and buy an aftermarket tip to put on?

Confirming that the tip is designed as a venturi, to suck cold air into the exhaust stream before it exits the pipe. Shouldn't be a problem, from a performance perspective, to relocate it as long as you keep the entire assembly at the end of the pipe intact, including the restriction just before the venturi openings.

here look at the differences between a cab and chassis to a regular take off bed dually
the first pic is a cab and chassis. notices its bent more out to the side than a regualr dually in the second pic

Thanks for the pics...noticed the frame rails are a bit different also... I think an EBY aluminum flat bed would fit better on the cab and chassis vs the pick up bed delete. Only i dont think you can get the loaded trim package in a can and chassis hmmmmm

If you don't remove the dpf, you could set fields on fire and melt asphalt without the tip.

Having the tip going out the back is a stupid design on GM's part. Isn't towing one of the biggest reasons we buy these trucks in the first place? While driving around town the front of my fifth wheel gets so hot you can't hold your hand on it. That can't be good. I fully intend on cutting the pipe and putting a different tip pointing out the side of the truck.

As odd as it may seem you can get a loaded cab ad chassis, I have seen several LTZ's with every option including sunroofs and such.

I agree with WTF was GM thinking pointing the exhaust out the back, the need to go back to bending it right and putting it out the side, as hard as it is to believe you can put a pipe inside the exhaust and bend the pipe forward, I know it sounds crazy but I have done it, you won't hurt anything just try it once.

I was thinking that you could cut the tip towards the back on an angle and weld on a larger tip on that points to the side. Not sure if that would affect anything.

:) I melted the rock guard on mine on the end of it and it was not in regen. I cut off the burnt part and made a metal piece similar to the plastic and screwed it on and painted it black. Works for me.:)

Problem too is i think it looks really stupid. I want a big tip pointing to the side. After all, it is a diesel.

If you guys are going to remove the factory tip BE SURE that you replace it with a DPF friendly aftermarket tip. Otherwise you will melt/burn things close to the exhaust exit or possibly singe someones legs as they walk past or even catch pants on fire.

No you won't because the truck won't regen in park, remember the Ford videos, they fixed that problem by programming the truck so it would only regen in gear.

Call me stupid but I would have no problem running a normal tip on a new truck, then again I would never have a truck with egr, dpf, or muffler... So regens would never happen in my case.

Actually my truck stays on regen in park for awhile is that a problem?

Perhaps the high heat from regen exhaust was the reason GM aimed the exhaust tip out the rear, instead of the side--for safety reasons--so that passers-by wouldn't suffer first-degree burns or something.

Government noise pass-by requirements is the biggest determining factor of the exhaust exit position. Pointing the exhaust away from the driver's ear is one of the methods to reduce the dB output of the exhaust. Other methods involve reducing airflow and I think nobody here wants that.

Umm, i do care about noise but i think the government/police should start with the little ricers and their 10000 watt subwoofers. In other words and i hope you are not offended, I don't give a rats #@s about the noise coming out of my incredible quite diesel engine. I just want a idea for a side mounted tip.

I only have a problem when they cost more than the car they are installed in. :)
