Is it possible?

2001 w/ 145K miles, great mpg, no oil making, light smoking....

Has a decent lope to it, but smoke just came about in last 1000 miles. It is hit and miss when/how much it will smoke, but never does at startup, just when warm.

I don't recall smoke being a FPR but injectors. I had the lope and the FPR fixed it.

I agree with chuntag95. It sounds like FPR is related to erratic idle, but not sure how it would cause smoking.

Yep, didn't know if anyone had a smoking situation, thought it was injectors and found it could be the FPR. I was just told by one local dealer that the smoke could mean back CP3 though......hmmmm. Injector test is now $170, what happen to the $100 one, lol!

I have a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator too, have it but have been putting it off. Now it smokes a little at idle and if I let it idle long it blows a good cloud of smoke when I get going.

THE NEWS YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!

Finished putting in the new FPR last night for my LB7. Procedure was not too bad, ran into some tight spots while removing components, cracked a knuckle or two. I used http://duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7927 to know which components I was going to need to remove.

RESULTS:
- Fixed the rough idle. I was getting between 3.0kpsi and 6kpsi fluctuation in my idle.
- Now I have a steady 5.4kpsi, no surge, better acceleration
- Fixed misfires on cylinder 4 and 6. I was also having peddle vibration at low speeds. Replacing the FPR seemed to have cured any vibrations or rough engine symptoms.
- Now for an interesting fix. Previously I was blowing black smoke at idle, constantly. Now there is only a slight slight haze, which I believe is due to my injectors (which have nearly 130k on them).

Total Cost:
- FPR $189.00 (ebay new), 2 new fuel hoses $3.00, Loctite $4.00, 2 Redbulls $4.00 http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif = $200

Please feel free to ask questions if you have any regarding the install or symptoms my truck was having previously, I'd be happy to answer. Thanks

could it cause a fuel knock. i just put injectors in my truck last weekend and i still have a knock coming from somewhere. i think my reading is about 3.2 kpsi, could this be the problem?

I can let you know if my DTC shows anything over the next few days, but I havent noticed any misfires or vibrations like I did before. When I use to put my foot on the peddle, it felt like a constant rough deep bump, especially at lower speeds. Now its a smooth pur of a duramax.

I wish I had more technical knowledge for you on the knock. Im guessing if you have a few 100k on the FPR, its time to replace it. My old FPR had residue and build up, which might have ultimately caused its failure.
