: Dealer says they'll do it!
hoytshooter 09-27-2010, 12:39 PM To all of you who have made posts and replies about glow plug issues and solutions; "A great big Thanks!" After reading a couple hrs worth of threads this weekend I was well informed. Called dealer this morning to see if they will do service under warranty? First woman didn't even know what a glow plug was. Put me on hold to talk to a service rep. LONG wait. Then a guy gets on saying computer shows an hr scv charge at 130dol and he'll have to check the part price. I told him the work is covered under the 5yr/100,000mi warrranty with 100dol deductable and I was actually calling to see if they would just replace the bad plug or all 8 as the tech bulletin says? (Found here on DP). He said probably just the one. I replied so you are saying you don't follow the tech bulletin and quoted it? He replies he'll check with his scv mgr. Gets back on and says yep, we'll do all 8. Scheduled appt for Wed morning. Next I need to remove my Edge. Any ideas on what to do with the probe in the manifold. Seems they could easily see that? Thanks again to all of the members here, your advice and knowledge!
kroffty 09-27-2010, 03:08 PM If your worried about the probe Pull it and plug the hole with a bolt.
HanksLBZ 09-27-2010, 03:52 PM I just went through this myself last week. The dealer told me the same thing but they ended up replacing all 8 and paid the hundred bucks. I did remove my tune before I took it in though. I would say leave the probe. I left my probe for my EGT and had no problems. Finding that TSB on here was great info. Thanks everyone.
GMC2500HD 09-27-2010, 04:17 PM I took mine in a few times to have things look at and never took did anything with the pyro probe. They asked about my gauges and I told them I towed a lot.
hosehog113 09-27-2010, 05:04 PM The dealer I bought my truck from told me that mine would not be covered under warranty and wanted almost $700 to change all of them. When I dropped my truck off, I told them that I had a DTC code P0768(#8 glowplug) and my "Service 4 Wheel Drive" light came on and I asked them to check on that for me too. They tell me that my 4x4 switch and my actuator are gonna need replaced and they want nearly $500 for that job. They charged me 2 separate diagnosis fees totaling nearly $80. I told them not to touch anything that was not covered under warranty. From reading on DP I was pretty sure that the glowplugs should be replaced under the 5/100 warranty, so I called the 3 next closest dealers and they all told me that it was covered and asked if I wanted to schedule and appt. to have it fixed. They talked like they will only replace the bad glowplug under the warranty. I'm not a mechanic or anything, but it seems a little weird to me that the 4x4 switch and the actuator are going bad at the same time. I don't know if they are trying to pull off some fishy stuff or not, but I guess they will have to try on someone else!
hoytshooter 09-28-2010, 04:16 AM Hosehog, the 4x4 switch is a very common failure on gm's. my 99 sierra gasser did this too. I ended up buying one, easily replaced it and its been fine ever since. they sell for varying prices less than $50 dollars. I sniped one off ebay for i think $17 dollars shipped. Took less than 10 min to switch out. Some say their failure has been the actuator but most times its just the switch. It was worth the 17 bucks for me to find out. Hope you get things easily resolved. I'll be posting what happens at the dealer with my truck.

What's the part number for the 4x4 switch?
hoytshooter 09-29-2010, 11:44 AM At the dealership for 45 minutes now. They haven't come and told me they won't do it under warranty yet. Wonder if they've got to it yet? I was third in line in the drop off bay. Looked like about 40 bays here and most were already full. Hurry up and wait.
hoytshooter 09-29-2010, 01:42 PM Almost 2 hrs and they tell me they don't have parts in stock? and have to do it tomorrow am. Are they for real. Svc desk guy told me this is uncommon. After reading all the posts here I find that hard to believe. They also said i have an egr code and it needs cleaning. The tech said it won't do much good tho cause it'll keep coming back. I told him I probably won't worry bout that right now. (Blocker plate is still installed. Hope he's cool if he opens it up. We shall see?) I sometimes get a code saying the turbo position not learned. I wonder if they see that one if they'll flash it with the tech2?
jknight8907 09-29-2010, 09:47 PM I got mine done for free with 96,000 miles. Wasn't worth dealing with the asshole service manager who chewed me out for telling him about the TSB, though.
prostar 09-30-2010, 04:20 PM Any of you guys on this thread with 06-07 engines use Stanadyne or another diesel additive on a regulas basis?

I use some 2-stroke oil pretty often. I add about 16 oz to an empty or 3/4 empty tank and top with diesel. Noticeably quiets the engine and makes it run smoother.
hoytshooter 09-30-2010, 08:50 PM Ok, truck was serviced today. Replaced all 8 gowplugs, update software and cleaned Egt valve, road test. Egr failed. Replace Egr and gaskets, clear dtcs, road test. Svc complete. 1.8lbr w/OLH 4.2lbr for Renew Egr valve, perform clean proceedure, reprogram PCM and glowplug mod. 100dollar deductible with 98xxx miles. Sound right? I'm happy. Wonder tho if the blocker plate had anything to do with failure? Also shouldnt the fingerstick prevent any Egr codes? I'm still learning this stuff, thanks. PVC reroute very soon to come!

Looks like the IPhone changed a couple spellings on me. EGR valve, not Egt and PCV reroute, not PVC is what it should read. I added a pic of the work order in my garage if anyone's interested in how they wrote it up. I'm questioning the last line to "flagd by RS"? Any thoughts?
prostar 10-01-2010, 10:01 AM hoytshooter & hankslbz did either of you use Stanadyne on a regular basis?

Are you thinking that using Stanadyne could have prevented this?

What symptoms of a problem with the glowplugs did you experience?
hoytshooter 10-01-2010, 11:48 PM No symptoms, just threw a code. p0674. The p067 is for the glow plugs and the next digit is the number of the plug thats bad. I had noticed my wire (wait to start symbol) stayed on for about a minute after it started throwing the code. Not anymore. Not sure if it's the new plugs or the updated flash? Reinstalled Edge today and runs GREAT!
prostar 10-02-2010, 08:17 AM Are you thinking that using Stanadyne could have prevented this?
Oh crap I got this confussed with one on injectors, stanadyne probably no effect on glow plugs. Sorry
