: warranty with aftermarket exhaust?
looking for info, will a turbo back exhaust void my warranty, 07 lbz with 63000 miles. or am i better off going with a cat-back system, either way i'll go with an mbrp set-up. will a 4" or 5" cat-back system give a throaty exhaust sound or do you only get that from a turbo back system.
Tanc Crusher 09-26-2010, 05:12 PM Cat will still be pretty restrictive for sound. Cant say on warranty.

shookme 09-26-2010, 05:23 PM Technically, no. I would say it would depend on the dealer. There are many that would send you packing.
Now, if you didn't have the cat and were setting an EGR insufficient flow code (DTC P0401), that would not be a warranty concern.
Bobcat2002 09-26-2010, 08:09 PM I would say with a cat back system you should be ok. Any changes from the cat frontward you may have trouble with certain dealers. Would mostly depend on the dealer. Why not call the dealer you would use for warranty and see what they say.
thats probily would be the thing to do, call the dealer and see what they say, just not sure if i want to spend the money if im not going to get the sound or or anything out of it,. without the cat will i get any codes or am i good to go.
christopherglenn 09-26-2010, 10:47 PM Turbo back will set codes, so you either need a programmer, or live with a mil.. If you go to the dealer with a mil for the cat, they will have you return it to stock before doing anything. Easy out, and saves gm a bundle. Catback doesn't set any codes, far safer on the warranty.
banshee1973 09-27-2010, 12:05 AM Depends on your Dealer and the Rep..
who has the best price on cat-back systems, looked at some on here but alittle confusing.
mreeves23 09-27-2010, 11:14 AM I can help you out with a price on the MBRP cat back or turbo back systems if desired. Just shoot me an email or pm with what material you are looking for (304 ss, 409 ss, or alumininzed) and I will hook you up. Tip desired?

LWATSON 09-27-2010, 07:20 PM You will hear other openions, but the cat is not a big restriction, the stock muffler is. I ran my truck with a HOT+2 ET with a cat back and a full system with no change in performance. I did drop a little bit off EGT's when I removed the cat and exhaust sounded better without it also. I would imagin when you started going above 500 hp the cat would start to hurt power.
just keeping motor stock for now (warranty). dealer said no problem with cat-back, so thats the way i'll go.how does it sound without a muffler? good or bad?

Most dealerships arent strict about exhaust systems, but if you want to be 100% safe, stick with a cat back kit. You will see much bigger gains and better sound with a full system though.
richard cheese 09-29-2010, 02:26 PM do the cat delete, but have a test pipe installed with clamps in your exhaust, so when the time comes to run it to the dealer, you can swap out your test pipe for the kitty...no problems
Pea Eye 10-08-2010, 05:22 PM I just installed the Turbo back Magnaflow, Dropped the kitty, and I'm an older guy. Gotta tell ya,,,,,........I love the sound it makes, and no codes....check out my signature. Highly recommended. I am building to tow only.....not race.....(Unless i'm teased).....
HumboldtMax 10-12-2010, 06:12 PM I've got the 5" MBRP cat-back with the muffler delete. It is not loud by any means, but is a lot deeper than stock when you get on it. It is also a lot lounder than it sounds inside the cab. If you go this route, as someone else mentioned, you can buy a cat-delete pipe that will hook right up to your cat-back and then swap the stock cat pipe in when you go in for warranty work.
colt49 10-14-2010, 07:05 PM If you can't work on it or won't just straight pipe the cat for the simple fact of leaving it under the truck. Takes 2 hrs. to sleeve it up. You have to do the work of out and in anyway if you do the improvement. Smog Nazis see a cat and that's good enough for those genius' gov. examiners.

My turbo back system, including the Diamond Eye downpipe, has not set any codes in 35,000 miles.
I also had it in the dealer to replace an encoder motor on the transfer case under warranty. They never complained about the 4" aftermarket exhaust and no cat. In fact the mechanic complemented me on how clean the exhaust system looked.
