Bought twelve quarts of this stuff from pep boys because they didn't have the 5W-40 Turbo Diesel. The salesman told me that the two are pretty close to the same. Just wondering what the differences are? Thanks Andrew

Its good oil, you need 10 quarts to do an oil change including filter. Oil is almost the same as the Mobil 1, additive package slightly different, some say is it a slighty better oil.

Your Pep Boys sales person is a bit confused, but what do you expect for $8/hour?

This product was specifically formulated for the European small diesel specs, and tested/approved by MB. This product differs fom the CJ-4 oils we have in the states.
All that said, it's not like your engine is going to sieze. You can run this stuff in your Dmax; it's just not optimzed for our market parameters. As the world of vehicles becomes more specialized, so the the lubes. Everyone needs to be more careful as to what they use, and not trust Joe the counter-jockey; he's typically the LAST to know.

The real question is why you simply didn't buy some Delvac 1300, Delo LE, or Rotella Triple Protection? The "big three" are available everywhere at reasonable prices, and often one of the big brand names will be on sale for $2.50/qrt. To get your money's worth out of the Mobil 1 5w-40 ESP, you'll have to run it for 3x or 4x longer OCI, because you surely won't get 3x or 4x less wear.
