I just received a notice last night of a recall on my rear seat belt. I'll post the number tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else has received this recall?

Thanks, Don

I got mine on saturday and was thinking of not doing it because it's not a problem for me. Do you think the Recall Police will come after me if I don't bring it in?

Got mine on Tuesday. I guess we'll see if the dealer can mess this up. Or maybe I'll stop by my local upholstery shop and see what he says. Getting the belt out is easy, stitching in place could get difficult.

Got mine over the weekend. Took it with me when I took the truck in for a SIR fuse blowing problem. They took care of both. Just as an OT FYI ... SIR fuse was being blown by parking brake pedal crushing a wire bundle at the top of the carpet. They repaired the bundle and moved it to the left.

Have not rec. recall notice at this time. What is the problem GM is trying to correct?

I got it on Monday and took the truck in for an oil change and steering shaft on Tuesday. They offered to do the recall and I said "no". What I believe it is is the loop at the back seat center that holds the belt a certain way. They just cut the loop. The last thing I want is them messing with the already inferior leather on my truck...

By the looks of who has received the recall... it applies to crewcabs.

Thanks JRKRACE. If that's it, think I'll just stay as is.

The recall states that GM has "decided " that the loop in the rear center seat that holds the belt can cause the seat belt not to ride low enough on a persons hip. This may cause a problem in the proper restraining of an occupant. Personally I don't want somebody cutting cloth and then restitching it. I'll remove the belt out of the loop myself and leave the loop sewn to the seat

Got one but will not take it in.
Don't allow riders in back seat.

When they did mine, the work was done exactly as stated in the recall. They removed the belt from the loop (did not cut the loop) and stitched the loop closed. Now what once was a loop with two rows of stitching is now a leather tab with three rows of stitching. Again, no cutting involved. Also, even though the work was performed AT the dealer, it had been sublet to Walco Vinyl Engineering CO 392 Brookes Drive, Hazelwood, MO 63042. They are an automotive seatcover, top and upholstery shop. Can't vouch for what other dealers are doing, but that is the way mine is handling this recall.

Got both of mine today, one for truck and one for the tahoe.. Not messing with either one of them. I just don't see any reason... I never ride back there.. Is this something that is really worth taking the time to have done?

Had mine done today while addressing another issue. No cutting or sewing. They just took the belt out of the loop, and left the loop alone.
Here's a picture:
P.S. Now I have a small anchor loop to tie somthing down to.
P.P.S. Dad, notice how clean the backseat is, had the truck detailed.

I was in the dealer this morning for another matter with my '03, and they wanted to do this recall. I politely said no, not at this time. It does look like GM screwed up and made that loop too short...its more for an adult than a child.

Looks like txguppy beat me to the pic. The only difference between his pic and what I would have taken is that my loop was pressed flat and stitched shut like the recall says it is supposed to be.

i had my truck to the dealership the other day and they asked me if i wanted it to be done and i didn't. it is like i would want them cutting up my leather seats. they would most likley cause more problems then good.

It is a safety recall guys!!! And I thought stiching is different from cutting. "I don't ever ride back there" What is that supposed to mean. Why did we buy a Crew Cab anyway? Was it just because that is what everyone else is buying.

I personally allow people to sit in my back seat. That is what I bought it for. I'm getting mine done ASAP. I have kids whom I am responsible for.

I know I am ranting but some of the justifications for not having a safety recall performed simply is retarded.

I can hear it now. "I said Hell NO, I don't want my brakes fixed under a recall!!! I drive my truck and only stop when I need to!!! Besides, I have airbags!!!!"

If I deserve to be flamed then so be it, but we are talking about the safety of your passengers or the safety of the passengers of the unknowing person (who actually uses the back seat) you sell your truck to.

And can you say that you will never use the back seat?

Just my .02 and opinions are still legal.

Ditto, Romark, that's why I traded my Ext. Cab for Crew Cab, more comfortable for extra people. Two's a party, five's an orgy.

I took my truck in this morning for the tailgate cable recall. I had never heard of the seatbelt recall. They did it without asking, but they CUT the entire loop off. It looks like crap. I think I may take it back and see what they say about it. That is not the way it is supposed to be fixed.

That is exactly why I did not have my dealer do it......You never know what your gonna get. With me, my kids are still in seats so it doesn't make a difference. Besides, the last time I took my truck in for service(A/C going bonkers), they put a nice gouge in a rear door. I have been waiting a week driving a Grand Am loaner to get my truck back from the body shop.
