I just picked up a used duramax. The build date on this "new-to-me" Duramax was June 20, 2001. Delivery Date to the original & only other owner was 9/28/2001. Odometer reading now is 23,819 miles. The first thing I need to do is get it some "new shoes"...it still has the original stock 245s on it...boy do they look tiny. -:tWhat is the largest size tires I can run without changing anything? And any opinions on which brand of tires are best for mostly paved AND gravel roads?

OH man are you gonna get it, just look through this forum and you will find all the info you need, you will find more opinions on here about that than you can immagine, here is mine.

I just put on the new Firestone Transforce AT tires, 550 treadware and 31.9" Tall and am thrilled so far.

Thanks. Yeah...I did search the tire forum and there is A LOT of info & opinions.
So those 265 Firestones fit well? Could it take 285s without any trimming or crankin?

Kurt

285s work fine with stock rims. I only had minor trimming to do mostly on the mudflaps. check out my gallery, I posted a couple pics of what I had to do.

I can't imagine putting 285's on these puny stock rims, it pinches the 265's pretty good I would not feel comfortable going 285. just my prefference.

suggest 265 max on stock wheel. just bought Michelin ATS mud/snow--check out reviews on tire rack web site.

Hundred on here are/have run 285s fine, I've wore out some too.

I tow around 15K and still no problems, guys are truck pulling w/ them and thats about as abusive as u can get on equipment.
