The lay down problems are driving me nuts. I bracket race a couple times a month, and it's not much fun when runs can be 1/2 sec off.

Anyway, local '02 alli for sale, I think I can get the tcm also. If the two are compatable, I'm thinking of buying and building for the lly. Mike, Eric, Steve, any imput would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

I beleive the lay down is programming and not so much the tranny.........I coul dbe and may be wrong, but I thought I read someplace that the LLY's power down in 1st gear and 5th........

Somebody will figure the fix out, probably easier than the tranny swap......

Good Luck,

The transmissions are alittle different but basically the same thing so that's not going to fix your trouble. Now weather or not the TCM programming will solve anything or not has not been tested. It may work it may not........... let us know.

Rob,

The 02 trans might help you out anyway (besides the lay down issue). You can do the complete pump kit on the 02 trans. The trans. you have is only half of the pump kit because of the design change. From what I understand about the new design (03 and up...i think) is that the pump kit can up the psi in the entire trans, but psi is still stepped down to the clutches. That part can't be modified like the 01-02 models can. So you are getting higher psi stepped down a little by the unmoded valve in your trans, where the 02 will be higher psi and not stepped down because the valve can be modded. That should equal higher psi to the clutches in the 02 trans. The 02 trans might be able to handle more power than yours can, but I don't think anyone has proved this yet. The TCM on an 02 even has fast learn, so I'd go for it!! I hope Mike L chimes in here to explain what I said or correct it if I am wrong. I am still learning this stuff so pardon me!!;)

I believe there is a problem in the converter flow valve area in the late '04s and '05s. They run hot especially if you kick the pressure up. We are looking into it right now. I am liking the early Ally more and more. Hopefully we will have some answers soon.

I'm running the ATS heavy spring in my 2005 with a Suncoast IV kit and working well. No heat issues, stock cooler (improved cooler is still a good idea) stock pan and stinky (I mean it REEKS) Citgo ATF. I've also used an early TCM (same as I use in my 2002) in this truck without issue. I have not verified modulated main with the early TCM, but would suspect it is non functional.

My 2002 has a Suncoast V in it that has the modulated main capabilities but the pump is what I guess you'd call early/late in that it accepts the Transgo valve yet accepts the late lines or so I am told. The idea was to move this trans to my 2005 when I began testing of the ATS Extreme, but it did not arrive in time so I kitted the 2005...
