last summer at this same time i traded in my 2000 reg cab 6.0 silverado for a 2003 reg cab silverado with the duramax. the truck has been nothing but a dream. at the same dealer i bought my 2003 they have a 2001 ext cab 2500hd with the duramax, its got about 67k miles on it my truck now has 53k. the 2001 when it first came in looked a lil beat up , but the dealer cleaned it up real nice, they added line-x painted up the frame new tailgate new tires. looks like a real nice truck. so my question is do you guys think i should trade in for that truck. i know the duramax is a great engine and its a chevy so it would be a great truck. but is it worth trading, theyre asking 25 for it, i think its kinda steep seeing as how i got my 2003 last summer with 22k miles on it for 24k, so mayb ei can drop the price some and only be paying off a few thousand. and then hopefully insurance would be less on a 2001 . so what should i do

thanks

I may be a newbie but as I was reading your post I was thinking "ARE YOU NUTS!" pay more money for a older truck with more miles on it plus it is my understanding that the 01's had more problems than the 03's. Now I'm not trying to bust your chops here and I have not seen ether truck but that's my two cents

I'd keep the '03.

Keep the 2003 and never trade down in model years.........;)

Just to save in insurance cost? Get a quote. It would have to be a hell of a lot cheaper for me to trade to an older truck.

Your insurance will not go down on an older year model truck, at least not by much if any at all. There is a system used and it does not have much to do with year model... Also, why trade down.. That makes no sense.... Keep the 03 and go on about your business...

Unless you need an extended cab I'd stick with your truck.

I think he wants the extended cab........but if I were you I would hold off for a crewcab and a better deal.......they want way too much money for the 01

I agree with the rest of the guys on this one, keep the 03', more warranty left.

Remember, you said that the truck looked a little beat up before the dealer cleaned it all up. Do you think the previous owner cared about routine oil changes and fuel filter replacement? Although I love the looks of the '01 and '02 models I'd keep the '03 in your case. My $.02. Nick

I just traded my 03 Reg cab in for a 05 crew, with the employee pricing deals going on I got a better warrantee on the new one, financed it for the same amount of time that I did the 03 and my payments stayed the same. I'd say look around for a new one and see what kind of deal you can find.
just my .02

good luck!

With the GM employee pricing deal - You can buy a brand new duramax LS x-cab for $31-32k. That's a 2005 with a full warranty. Look on gmbuypower.com and find a dealer who has one near you - I drove to a dealer 100 miles away to get mine.

I paid $35k for my 2005 duramax 3500 SRW (not a dually). Crewcab longbed LS model with a few options added (steps, climate control, camper mirrors, etc).

Given that, does $25k for a 2001 sound like a good deal to you?
