Luckily, when I was driving from georgia to alaska via the southern to arizona then straight up type route, I had read the diesel place.

I knew that if the fan kicks in, it sounds like a jet turbine.

Going up one grade, it kicked in. Sounded like a jet turbine. Only time the fan clutch has engaged yet on the truck from a high temperature... and gee, the temperature decreased when the fan came on! Must work :)

Don't know what these guys are doing wrong.

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHH... A thread that we can post in! ):h Don't get me wrong, what there doing is helping their issues out from what I can read.

My experiences:
LB7 - Never above 200, fan kicks on often
LLY - Never above 200, fan kicks just as often

Both have towed hard and fast in plenty hot weather...

my lb7 has not overheated (knock on wood) last weekend: temps 95-102, engine 210, ran A/C whole time; the girls like to crank the A/C and then instead of turning it warmer, put a blanket on ;). GCVW 21000. Grades up to 6%.

I'm not going to get my panties in a bunch over the exclusive thread. It isn't a survey, they're just trying to stay focused.

I have had mine up to 230+ climbing the mountains getting out of the Valley of the Sun (I call it Haides!) pulling heavy in Level 2 at the speed limit. Fan roaring like mad. Ambient temp in the 110+ range. Top of the ridge and temps drop like they are supposed to. OverHeating = Redline on guage. Never been there. Guess she operates like she's supposed to.

BTW, how many of us replace the DexCool at the suggested interval and who can say there was a temperature benefit?

I hit 220 via the attitude once. Outside temp was around 50 degrees and I was cruising about 95 and she was still slowly climbing so I slowed her down to 75 or so and the temp droped to 210(factory gauge stayed about at 210 the entire time) That was the only time......I guess thats what you get for seeing how fast you can run with your plow on before she starts to get hot

Last spring, I had the full winter cover on (bumper and grille) when it reached 68 degrees (it got alot warmer than what they had forecast), and the temperature STILL didn't move off of where it regularly is. I don't think I could make my truck overheat if I tried.

I have not seen over 210 on the coolant or over 200 on the trans. That was pulling a boat, a lot of camping gear and 6 people in the pickup. Temps outside were 105 in the hills outside of lodi. Stopped to get ice and drinks so I let it let it idle with the a/c on. When we started down the road the fan came on for about 1 mi. and stopped. Must have done it's job. Have had 11,000 lbs. on her and no problems here.

Neither my 02 nor my current 05 have ever gotten over 210. Both have been driven in over 100 degrees pulling trailers over the Grapevine in CA. 02 was at 33,010 GCVW and still didn't over heat. 05 was pulling only about 10,000 lbs of trailer and never went over 210, tranny at about 170. Both of my trucks have had a Ruenel type (homemade, heavier) front bumper with winch on it which probably blocks some air flow.

Went to Blythe this weekend for a little river trip. Went up the pass on the 10 at about 2:30. Temp outside was 118. Had the a/c on 4, had a 7,000pd trailer in tow and kept the speed at 55 the whole way up. Trans temp stayed on 200 and the engine hit 210 for about 5 seconds and the fan came on it it droped back to about 195. I love this truck.
