I have a local shop telling me a lift pump will help mpg. Any comments?

Let me guess, they are trying to sell you a lift pump?

And if you keep your speed to 55mph and less with no fast accelerations your milage will increase but I do not think most people will drive that way. We make and sell lift pump kits and there have been some reports of improved milage but I would in no way recommend that you buy one for that reason alone, as there have been just as many with no milage improvements.

Allright, how could having a lift pump on help milage? Unless they figure with a lift pump less pressure would be needed on the accelerator? That just doesn't make sense....

The only thing I can think of is that it heats the fuel somewhat. It is possible warmer fuel gets better mileage from quicker combustion.

But it could also be the magnets in the electric motors aligning the fuel molecules. ;)
