Today while driving I attempted to adjust the fan speed on my a/c but there was not change, it only seemed to work in HIGH. The funny thing is that I JUST had the control panel replaced by the dealer. I checked the back of it for connections. Upon checking it the connection started to smoke and melt, looks as if there has been prior melting. Here are the pictures of what happened. I have pulled the connectors free and connected them, and the control panel works that way, but will not work if they are inside the plastic connection. Does anyone know how I might fix & improve this connection, so that it connect properly without having to buy a new wiring harness?

Frankly, I'd pull the fuses for any power going to that panel, put it all back together, and then bring it back to the dealer for them to fix their own mess. I would simply say that it is malfunctioning again, and that smoke was coming from the control panel, and then let them replace the wiring harness and correct the problem. It says to me that something is grossly miswired to have that much current running through it.
Sincerely,
Rob :)

How is the connection TO the control panel the dealers fault (not that I wouldn't love for them to take care of it for me, just not sure how I am going to show it's their fault)?

if someone at the dealership parts department is knowledgeable they can get you the conector and the pins to replace the damaged ones

Sorry, I misunderstood. It appears that your connector has an internal wiring problem resulting in a short. I agree that you should simply get a new connector shell from the dealer and fix it. Shouldn't take very long. Some of the GM connectors tend to have the connector with wires already attached, and you need to cut the old wires, strip them, and then use the butt connectors that they supply.
Sincerely,
Rob :)
