Looking to get into a new duramax and I'm considering the 06 upgrades. Any feedback from 05 owners that changes for 06 are worthy and given the chance to upgrade or in my position which advice to go. This is a great forum and enjoy the info passed around. A few lashing but it's all good.
Thanks for any input.

I don't know where people are getting this 360hp/650tq from in the 2006. THE NUMBERS ARE THE SAME AS 05. I have confirmed this with 3 different dealers. There will be a power upgrade on the 07 models. Happy Hunting!!!!!!

It may not be in there at the beginning of the model year, but I would wager a MY06.5 with the new numbers included. I hear it has an RPO LBZ. Just have to wait.

Not real concerned with a 20hp bump mid yr. Is going with 6 speed in the right direction. Factory seems to think a larger Trans cooler is needed but since I don't own a 5 speed or a warm tranny, Was looking for feedback from 05 owners.

These numbers are coming from guys like "Kool" who supposedly works for GM. He had stated that 06's would have the increased HP output. This happened with 310 LLY, I bet we don't know what's up until Nov.....

Buy the '06. I like my truck and the price was right, but only if GM steps up and makes some of the mod changes to cool it down (tons of changes in this respect on the '06s). Hope the prices drop after the GM employee price program ends, so the '06 is affordable for you.
Good luck....

I just read an article that GM is going to "Value Pricing" for '06. Which means they are going to lower sticker prices closer to actual selling prices on about 1/2 of their models. We'll see.

Just drove my first ever Diesel off the lot in June 05. I've have only pulled a 20' flat bed trailer with around 7400lbs loaded so far. I love this truck except that I have a hard time driving 60-65 to get decent fuel mileage. If the 06 is indeed coming out with a six speed Allison, then it could be worth waiting for depending on the overdrive rpm's when cruising, unless your ok driving "slow" or are pulling maximum loads regularly. I have read suggestions to help with this like larger tires but I'm not very keen on that idea. That's my only beef with the 05 so far.
One thought is if you are not in an extreme hurry for one, wait for the 06's to test drive and get more info on them. There should still be some new 05's around that a good deal could be made on because of end of year clearance. The only thing about this is that you may not be able to get exactly all the options/configurations you would want.
I am totaly new to diesels so all this could sound off the wall to others, but that's my $.02 :)
