A freind of mine just bought a used 01 cummins 5 speed and he thinks it might have a programer in it. Is there any easy way to tell? it dose smoke a good bit under load and acceleration. Also it keeps blowing the clamp and hose off on the turbo side of the aftercooler when pulling a 6,000lb trailer up grade!

If your friend is local, I'd be happy to take a look at his truck for you. Since he just got it, it wouldn't hurt to give it a complete once over anyhow.

As far as the intercooler boot goes, have him take it off and clean it thoroughly. When he reinstalls it, have him spray little bit of hair spray on the inside of the boot and clamp it down tight. That should take care of your problem. If not, Piers makes a great HD intercooler boot and clamp kit that will take care of it for sure.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

Id say if it has a silencer ring it not programed

The silencer ring is a easy FLAG to see if the truck has had anything done to it ....its useally the first thing to be changed
