: Best Extended warranty Coverage??
Bigwheel 07-26-2005, 10:16 AM Wondering who has checked into extended warranty coverage? The fleet agent I know sells Ultimate Warranty Corp's Extended Care, where one can get 7 year / 125,000 mile coverage for $1,445.00. Wondering what many have found, best experiences, I hear of some bad experiences that some have ran into with what's covered and what's not. Thanks for any info everyone can give.:thumb:
badass1000 07-26-2005, 03:08 PM Damn!! That is a pretty good warranty for a pretty good price. I just bought a new 05 lly a few weeks ago. I paid $2800 for a 6 year 72,000 mile warranty. I know it cost about twice what I thought it should be, but if I don't use it after it expires I can get a full refund.
lokinutz 07-26-2005, 03:55 PM I just spent $1550 on a factory bumper to bumper 6yr/72K warranty. Payments for 1 year, 0% interest. I looked into a bunch of other non factory warranties, but I don't want Joe Blow working on my truck. Its tough enough to get a good FACTORY diesel mechanic, let alone one at a private shop. I drive my truck in, GM fixes it, and I drive home (hopefully). No BS dealing with claims people. Some warranties want you to pay, and then get refunded, others want your vehicle to go to specific shops. Read all the fine print before signing up.
Bigwheel 07-26-2005, 04:06 PM Yea, this one is called Ultimate Warranty Corp. In Ohio, and it is a extended warranty that can be used at any Dealer anywhere, they do issue credit card payment over the phone for repairs. I'm just trying to get as much feedback from as many on here as I can, the fleet guy I know told me that if you get the GM extended warranty it goes back to the origional day of purcahase, this coverage goes after your regular warranty expires, so this is just piece of mind. Check out their site:http://www.uwc21.com/extended.htm
duramaxdiesel 07-26-2005, 08:11 PM I have the GMPP and agree with lokinutz. Drive to the dealer, give'em the keys and tell them to call me whan she's ready. I've done it before.
sixfoot 07-26-2005, 08:54 PM I have a 2003 with 35000 miles and GM sent me a letter offering 3 more years and/or 54,000 more miles for $2240.00. I thought that was too much, especially since the engine is already under warranty to 100,000 miles!
Bigwheel 07-27-2005, 01:09 PM Well, I talked to a guy at Ultimate Warranty and he tells me this, and this is in writing:
The extended warranty covers everything the manufacturers warranty covers and you get 2 free years of road side assist, 2 free gallons of fuel if you run out of gas, credit card payments over the phone, pay for diagnostics time, I could get a copy of this and possibly e-mail out a written copy of the agreement.
I talked to the service manager at one of the main dealerships in the twin cities area where I live ( Iten Chev ) and he tells me that Ultimate Warranty pays 100% better than GM's warranty, but they may not be open at late hours in the evening if your on vacation and you run into a breakdown, you probably would have to drop the truck off and wait till morning till repairs could be called in, but that could even happen with GM's warranty deal, if the dealer is not open late, no parts, but this policy costs $1445 for 7 years/ 125,000 miles, thats over 1,000 bucks more than GM's, you could buy a-lot of hotel rooms and entertainment for 1 grand, but don't forget that the service manager is a good marketing tool as well, who would'nt try to lie and convence a customer about the bad deals regarding extended warranty other than the company you work for. Some of it is true though.
Hopefully more leave some feedback. Thanks.
partsguy662 07-27-2005, 01:29 PM Bigwheel - I don't know how Ultimate Warranty operates, but after dealing with a few extended warranty companies on the dealer end, here's a few things to consider..
Modifications..I didn't hear any adjusters squak about larger tires, but I did see one guy get his warranty denied because of a lift in his truck...(I pissed off customer, let me tell you) I have also seen them take 2 to 3 days to send an adjuster to approve the repair (more down time) Of course, as long as they approve the repair, you aren't out the cash you'd have to pay the repair if you didn't have the ex. warranty...Also, ask what they would do if you were to grenade a transmisson or an engine..see if they would pony up for a new/reman gm motor/trans or request the dealership to go junkyard hunting for a cheaper price...
Roegs 07-27-2005, 01:32 PM With the engine covered on the 5 yr 100,000 mile warrenty, I'm not sure I see much benefit in extended plans. Its basically covering the transmission, rear end, etc. They are not the same as the factory 3/36 warrently. Here is a list of exclusions from the GMPP plan. For those looking for a GMPP plan, www.gmoutlet.com sells them at an attractive discount.
