: Any good injectors out there?
bullshooter 09-14-2010, 08:18 PM My 7 year warranty will be up in Oct. I took my truck in and had the injectors checked, but they are normal. I was kinda hoping to get new ones before the warranty ran out. It will be just my luck they will go bad the day after.
So i was wondering, who still has the stock injectors and how many miles are on them, I got 97,000 on mine.
IBBOWTIE 09-14-2010, 08:29 PM I'm at 105K and they have been smoking for about 3K now. Its to the point that I have to change them due to embarrassment.
Truck still runs good though
good luck
paoutdoorsman 09-14-2010, 11:23 PM The originals in my 02 were perfect until 112K at which point something went bad quickly. I was 6 months past the 7 year mark...
SCOTTD 09-15-2010, 01:35 AM Well, I'M not too happy right now. I'm 3 mos outside of the 7 year limit for the enhanced warranty, at only 54K miles. (I know, I know, My truck's been a garage puppy) Within the last 1000 miles, my truck has started all the classic symptoms of injector failure. Balance rate on 2 cylinders way out of spec with the worst at -7.87, smoke at idle, raw diesel smell, runs like ass above idle, etc. etc. So I think great...luck's on my side, no problem. Take all my mods off before going to the dealer,:banghead: leave it with them for 4 days and hear nothing. Ask what's up, and they tell me the truck doesn't fail in the parameters that GM specifies. Fuel return rates still within spec and no diesel in the oil. Service writer tells me he'll see what he can do to try to "pull some strings" with the powers that be. 3 more days pass. This morning I get the dreaded call informing me that yes the injectors are bad "electrically", but that I'm basically SOL because GM doesn't cover THAT kind of a failure. :wtf: GREAT!
What pisses me off is that GM has acknowledged they have had a longstanding problem with the LB7 injectors, and won't make it right...especially on a truck with such low miles. We'd all agree that a bad injector is a bad injector no matter how the damn thing failed. Pretty sad when ANY of us have to go through all this BS and expense on our dime when it is an admitted design flaw. You figure buying a diesel equates to trouble free longevity compared to a gasser. Guess I was wrong. So, I guess I get tho join the bandwagon, guys. Off I go to buy some friggin injectors. Nothing like seeing $2K plus flying outa yer wallet when it shouldn't have to.
Thanks for lettin me vent.
bullshooter 10-07-2010, 06:46 PM well the smoke was getting worse, so I took it to the nearest authorized dealer. about 100 miles one way. had an appointment scheduled for two weeks, when I got there they started the test got about half way thru it and said number 7 looks bad, but the next step is a compression test and they don't have time to do it. I have to take it back next week for them to finish the test. does this sound right or am I getting the run around? If number 7 is the only bad one will they replace all?
My 7 years is up Oct.16 so I think my timing is perfect anyway.
bullshooter 10-15-2010, 03:19 PM finally after four days I call to see whats up with my injector test, they said I need new injectors, but won't be under warranty because I have mods.(4" lift, 4"exhaust) So I call GMC they file a case and will get back to me.
Any advice to convince them to do this under warranty, I also have a predator that is on stock tune, can tell I have this?
If it isn't going to be covered under the warranty, then I will bring the truck home and do it myself or have it done locally, How much should I have to pay for the injector test??
1LTREATR 10-15-2010, 06:06 PM I wouldve taken the tune out. Too bad there isnt another dealer close by to try. Ive never had an injector test done but last I heard it was like....100-150? I may be wrong
KEVINL 10-15-2010, 10:08 PM It is nearly impossible to to get the injectors warrantied anymore
duramax86 10-16-2010, 01:54 PM sometimes you get lucky. had an 02 LB7 go 190,000 miles before injectors were acting up. but the 03 only went for 125,000. the 02 is for sale now. one of the few with a 6 speed manual in it. crew cab, dually, 4X4, 6 speed manual.
Bigd74 10-16-2010, 06:03 PM Pour some diesel in the oil and they will replace em
wickedZ 10-16-2010, 10:06 PM bigd according to my dealer they dont care if the crank case is full of diesel if the balance rates are good there is no problem
dmaxalliTech 10-16-2010, 10:09 PM At the mercy of the dealer most cases. Most dont know what an injector is if they seen it away from the engine.
Few guys are pretty sharp in dealers, I hope your local guy is one of them
bullshooter 10-25-2010, 08:14 PM well the trucks been there almost two weeks now, The latest I heard is they are not going to cover the injectors because I have aftermaket gauges. you got to be kidding me, what a bunch of crap. All the millins of bad injectors GM has had to replace, but mine went bad because I have gauges..
I think i'm going to pay to have them install the injectors and then continue the fight with GM. (probably a bad idea but I really need my truck back)
Anyone know an address for warranty issues at GM?

If the dealer needed your money they would get your injectors warrantied assuming that you are within 7 years 200,000 miles. Tell them if they can't help you that you will go elsewhere. Find a good diesel shop that stands behind their work and have them do it. I wouldn't let the dealer do anything that isn't warranty work. I have yet to talk to a dealer that was as good as a reputable shop.
