: Edge Level 6 or not???

Just want some opinions. I have 06 lly with with 5" MBRP turbo back, AEM hd intake and Edge Juice with Attitude. So 06 lly comes stock at 320hp I believe, and that is just a tuned down lbz which comes around 360hp stock. My Edge is the same as the lbz Edge at level 5 is an extra 80hp and level 6 would be an extra 100hp. So at stock, if I am already 40hp below an lbz would unlocking my level 6 be ok with what I got on my truck or do I need to add some extras to be safer than sorry. If you think extras please let me know what you recommend. Thanks!!!!

An 06 is an LBZ. 8th digit of the vin is a 'D'

An EARLY 2006 model is an LLY, if the 8th digit is a "2." IIRC
Stock LLY=310hp + 100hp=410hp
Stock LBZ=360hp +100hp=460hp
So in essence, a 100hp tune an an LLY would be the same as a 50hp tune on an LBZ. Most people say 90-100hp extra is max for a stock Ally on an LBZ, but you are at 50 hp extra on an LBZ, so I would say you are okay.
I could have a totally wrong idea as to how it all works, I have been wrong before though.

I could be wrong but the 6 speed Alli is the same in the LLY and the LBZ. I can't figure that GM would have had two different transmissions for the early 06's.

In theory you should be fine. I would recommend that during really cold weather that you return it to stock. Any additional line pressure will cause the trans lines to leak. I would also recommend the transgo jr but I haven't neeeded it yet and I don't normally beat on my truck to much.

Edge increases line pressure in the Transmission?

plus the edge won't give you any extra power until the get's to 140 and then will give full power at 160 temp. I think. But you can over ride that option if you want. IIRC.

Most do, that's the reason for the transmission relearning all of the shift points.

That Is What I Wanted To Hear. Thanks For The Replies.

Didn't know that. Thanks!:)

I had the exact same question about the banks 6 gun... So me running level 4 on banks basically gets me to stock lbz tune.... therefore running level six, 100 hp, would be like running level 4 on an lbz. I tried to message the banks guy with the same question but i never got an answer back. I assume It would also be safer to tow on a higher setting since im getting less fuel than an lbz

Isn't the shifting re-learn process with a tuner's increased power levels due to the shift energy management (SEM) feature of the transmission control module (TCM)? It has to re-learn the engine's new torque output?

That's about right, the re-learn is due to the new power & torque levels. The programmers don't change the line pressure, since it is all mechanical. I believe the only way to raise the line pressure is to install a Transgo Jr kit in the valve body.

They should increase the pressure. If not, why is it when I start my truck at -10F on level 2, my trans lines leak like a sieve and when it is stock I don't see a drop. Correct, the TCM relearns the torque output but with out boosing the line pressure you would fry the transmission really fast.

The duramax is not like a ford and NO CANNED TUNER raises line pressure in the transmission.. Transgo JR..yes...tuned tcm yes..trans lines leak with engine tuned or not.. leaking trans lines has nothing to do with your tuner. Think I'm wrong? Show me a tuner that has trans options in it for shift firmness or line pressure in a duramax besides the fast relearn option and I'll eat my words.

Glad the line pressure statement was corrected, Didn't want to have to tackle leaky lines this weekend.

The LBZ and The LLY in 2006 are the exact same motor. The only difference is the tuning in the engine and the torque convertor in the tranny. When you tune a 06 LLY with a tuner that works for 06 LLY and LBZ with a 50 hp tune. You are getting 50hp over a stock LBZ. Basicly it is making your truck a LbZ then adding what ever hp it is advertising. The thing most people do not know is the reason the LLY why was derated is because they didn't think the Torque convertor would hold up to the extra HP. so when the new torque convertors were availiable the lbz came out. Only problem is the new torque convertor is actually worse than the old one.

How so? Haven't heard of any issues with the LBZ converters.
