: Help Boot loader Rejected
boardsrock05 09-12-2010, 07:09 PM Help I have a 2003 LB7 just bought EFI key to tune my truck and I cant get the stock tune pulled from it. It keeps saying "BOOTLOADER REJECTED" I tried using the ALT key box as well.. I searched the other Threads and nothing has worked for me I pulled the stock radio fuse unplugged my amp, made sure door was shut, my cigarette lighter plug works fine, headlights were off, the DIC says reading EFI live in progress then blinks my odometer then says service 4x4 then Driver unknown then back to service 4x4
Btw i dont have ONSTAR
Thanks any and all help will be appreciated.. I cant wait to get a tune on my truck
540Diesel 09-12-2010, 08:41 PM Are you using a V2 Flashscan? Do you have the latest V7 & V8 loaded onto your computer, and then is your Flashscan updated to the latest bootloader and firmware version? Make sure your Flashscan is up to date or you can have issues.

boardsrock05 09-13-2010, 01:41 PM Any one know if there is a way i could tell if it was tuned and locked by a different Efi live ??
boardsrock05 09-13-2010, 03:55 PM OK so i figured out my firmware is not updated so will try to get that strait tonight
540Diesel 09-13-2010, 07:31 PM Did you get your boot block and firmware updated, and did it work to pull your tune out now?
Let me know if you need some help on updating it.
EFI Support 09-13-2010, 08:38 PM The 3 most common reasons for Bootloader Rejected on an LB7 are:
- Incorrect controller type selected
- ECM locked by previous tuner
- ECM corrupted by TIS (GM Programming)
Firmware/bootblock/software mismatches may cause an error but I doubt it would be bootloader rejected.
Has the truck ever been programmed before?
Cheers
Cindy

I have never tuned the truck before. I bought the truck with a edge juice on it but i sold it before i had Gm replace my injectors under warranty how would i know if someone else had tuned my ECM?

I went under the EFI control panel to update the boot block and it says to update to 2.06.03 and a little window keeps popping up in the corner over the scanner in the control panel it keeps saying connected device is not responding ensure the boot block is V2.05xx or later.. the firmware says no suitable firmware found and when i click the WHY button to update it it says EFI cannot locate any firmware that matches the currant boot block version
Thanks in advance
boardsrock05 09-14-2010, 11:18 AM And yes i made sure i selected the LB7 ECM for controller type
EFI Support 09-14-2010, 08:39 PM You need to open the Upgrading FlashScan document located at Start>Programs>EFILive>V8>Documents>Upgrading FlashScan.pdf.
This document will walk you through the process of upgrading your firmware and bootblock, however the path you take is dependant on what firmware/bootblock you presently have.
Going back to the 3 most common "Bootloader Rejected" reasons you won't know if someone else has tuned the truck unless you know the history of the truck.
You can determine if GM corrupted the ECM when they did your injectors (or at some other point of time) by connecting the Scan Tool and checking the VIN of the ECM to see if it looks valid.

Will it let you click on the update button to update to the 2.06.03 Boot Block? Once that is updated you should be able to update the firmware to 2.06.40 your Flashscan is good to go then.
Take Cindy's advise and check to make sure your ECM is not corrupt. Your going to get your best advise from the crew at EFI Live. They are the Pros.

Thanks i see the vin was not correct it was alike aayys or something like that i reprogrammed to the real one but its still not letting me read the vin
Josh2002cc 09-14-2010, 11:45 PM I had the same problem, went to the bullydog website and printed out the instructions to download their junk program to see which fuses got pulled. Pulled the ones they said to pull and bam...efi worked! It was on a 03 as well. I know I know, you don't have to pull fuses but just like you I got the same crap message and nothing else worked. Might be worth a try buddy.
EFI Support 09-15-2010, 03:04 AM What do you mean by "corrupted the ecm" ?
Whenever an ECM is programmed it has the potential to become corrupt which means it won't function the way it was designed. There are lots of checks and balances put into reprogramming software to minimise failure, but they still occur from time to time.
It is a well known issue that GM's reprogramming can cause an issue on the LB7's where the truck still operates normally, but the ECM can no longer be programmed by either GM's software or any other aftermarket device. It's a rare occurance for other reprogramming software (ourselves and handhelds included) to corrupt an ECM.

In your instance, it appears that GM's software has corrupted your ECM. You won't be able to read or tune it with EFILive or any other programming device. Basically if you want to change the program in your truck you need a new ECM.
At this stage, I think you should go back through your injector replacement paperwork from GM and try and determine if the dealer did infact reprogram your ECM.
In terms of moving forward; you'll still need to upgrade your firmware/bootblock when the time does come to tune.
