Guys:

I have read a great deal about the Duramax heat issues and having just purchased mine, I'll admit the overheating threads are a concern. I have pulled my 8,000 + travel trailer on the truck's maiden voyage. Outside temps were hot 98 or so. No mountain pulls yet, but that will come soon, I hope. The engine temps held firm at just below 210. I purposely stopped on grades and a hammerred it from a dead stop to see if I could get the temp to climb above 210. It didn't happen in the hills I was in, but the jury is still out on whether the temps will climb in the mountains.

I have noticed that even unloaded, the operating temps are just shy of 210. This is considerably hotter than my 1995, 6.5 (which I still own). We all are aware of the overheating problems with those trucks. By comparison, I could have performed the same test with the 95 on those slow grade hills and made the fan clutch kick in with no problem.

Has anyone considered installing a cooler thermostat on the 2005? I realize that once the thermostat opens, its doing all it can do. Would the 05 operate adequately with a cooler thermostat??? Any thoughts???

My truck doesn't overheat, and the needle stays glued about one needles width below 210.

Just a point of reference for you. Good luck, enjoy the new truck!
