The're mistaken in calling that a down pipe. That pic is the front pipe. The down pipe is about 10" long and attaches to the pipe pictured.

That IS NOT A DOWNPIPE

Trust us, I dont care what the manufacture calls it or the magazine says there are NO DOWN PIPES CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR A DURAMAX

not trying to be a jerk guys, but this is what I've been trying to explain... the actual down pipe is not available...most exhaust companies call this FRONT pipe the down pipe just for marketing. I'll find the picture of the actual down pipe and show you guys. I had to dig for it before, but I'll find it again.

Yeah, it's all semantics man. Some call that the "downpipe" while others don't, those here don't consider it to be a dp...

ok..here... the top one is the ACTUAL DOWN PIPE that comes directly off the turbo and goes down and connects to the FRONT PIPE, the one most manufacturers are calling a down pipe.

see how its crushed?? there is like 1.5" between the turbo and the firewall so to make it fit they smashed it.

Then WTF is the difference??? That pipe right there (pic) comes off the TURBO...so its the front pipe??? I would imagine its the down pipe!

So it goes Turbo, front pipe, down pipe then exhaust?

And I quote from the mag "The down pipe from the turbo is much bigger and smoother than stock. There's no catalytic converter either, which is only required in certain states, like california.

Started a riot didnt I?!?!?! lol

LOL... I went through this 8 months ago too so no worries..

it goes.. Turbo, down pipe, front pipe, cat back, tips.

the front pipe is called the front pipe because its the front most pipe. THe down pipe is called the down pipe because it comes directly down off the turbo and connects to the front pipe.

like I said..99% of the manufactures call it a down pipe, its very common..but wrong.. LOL

Lol well thanks for helping me out guys, sorry If I offended anyone. Atleast I finally got some pics to work! and got to see what it truly looks like. Again thanks all.

Is there another way to rought the downpipe to avoid the 1.5" it needs to go through?

no offense taken.. just trying to clear that up for ya so there is no confusion.

its super tight back there.. supposedly there is one in the works, but not sure how they will get it to fit. Someone said ATS was doing it..

I went through the front pipe install in february..

So just removing that crushed pipe and placing a better flowing pipe will help GREATLY I bet. It must get hot and have lots of restriction right there.

Holy cow!! I've never looked in there to see that crushed POS before. What an eye opener. Looks like it was run over.

Is the picture on the bottom what it is supposed to look like?

don't know for sure.. that was the closest example I could find, just happened to have another one in the picture with it. The top one is what our factory down pipe looks like though.

Got Juice?

NO DOWN PIPES CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR A DURAMAX

Unless you purchase a set of Twins! or an ATS Turbo.
Then you get a real downpipe!:)

Brian, your pic is of a Ford downpipe by the looks.

Dont waste your time even trying to build a downpipe for a stock charger, as Juice can attest, the PITA to put it in aint worth it.

Eric is right, that pic is of a 94-97 Powerstroke Down-pipe. Though not the DP for a Duramax, it illustrates his point very well.

there is a picture of one on this forum somewhere, i have seen it. It was on a duramax that was i think pulled out of a truck and was going into a suburban (or something like that). any way the motor was out hanging on a stand and you could get a good look at the down pipe.
