This is a poll for those that have overheated. This is a simple poll! If you have never overheated, you will not be responding. Again simple, pick the vehicle you were driving when it got too hot for your pleasure. I will not tell you what is too hot, though general consensus and guideline would suggest 230 and rising on the ECT gauge is a good guideline, but you are the judge. For clarity, please do vote, regardless, if you saw 240.

No arguments, no discussions here please. Not concerned with GVW, or tranny temp, or any other details.

1.) Please DO NOT vote if you were NOT working the vehicle, or you had a known mechanical.
2.) Please DO NOT vote if you did not have a facory grill, or had anything obscurring the grill, bull bars, grill insert etc. You must have the factory original unmodified front end, No lift kit
3.) Please DO NOT vote if you were running a tuner or program, any power enhancer of any kind, at the time.
4.) If you vote here, it is because you still don't know why it got hot, and you believe it shouldn't have.

Just a truck that overheated while working it, plowing, towing, etc. If you have experience with more than one, you can pick the ones that apply.Your entry is greatly appreciated for this solution effort.

If reading this made you nervous, please see your pastor.

KB, When I got hot I was driving: I've gotten hot driving ALL the above trucks so do I vote for all of them?

It's sticky now so u won't have to TTT.

I have posted before.

My truck is all stock. 17000 miles.
I have not boiled it over yet. I dont have the hart to do it.
It dose not get hot when I am pulling any thing under 4000 LB.

But when I am pulling my weekend warrior. 7500 LB +.
The fan clutch stay on almost the hole time I am driving. OAT Anyware from 80 deg to 108 deg. ECT Anyware from 210 to 240 before I back off.

My driving speeds are from 55 to 70 MPH.

I pretty disapointed with this truck.

P.S. Went by the GM Dealer and asked them about my problem. The service writer told me this is normal.

for your next poll, to expand upon the above, if you can start going out to build date, 4x4 etc etc, you might be able to spot a bell shaped curve, which if it did develop, would help pinpoint the commonality of the problem (if there is one, and not a design defect overall). if there was a manufacturing problem, you might be able to see when it occured and when (IF ?) it went away, or stayed.

Kind of a one sided poll isnt it if you dont offer a "never have" choice.

This is where mine would fall into.

Never towed at altitude but many miles on the flat lands, summer, winter had not got hot yet.

Not at truck but I believe it has a 15psi coolant cap on it. Water boils at 220*F, but for each PSI on the cap it raises the boiling point 3*, so a 15 psi cap raises it 45*F, so it is not really hot till 265*f.

I have an 03 D/A and tow a 30 ft 5th wheel. Truck and trailer weigh
in together at 15,800 lbs. Have towed the camper in all kinds of weather
and had the clutch fan kick in only a couple of times, under 7 for sure.
I have a stainless steel window screen in front of my radiator to keep the
bugs out, and it still never crawls over the center mark on the engine
heat guage, and tranny gauge stays at about the same place as the
engine heat guage.
I have heard the new Duramax's have more room between the engine
and the hood, to allow more air movement. I just have not seen this
as a problem.

How about trying some of the mods listed below?

HD-Nate: Yes, one sided, I did not want any responses from anyone who hasn't overheated. But outsiders are always welcome. Trying to detect a timeline of issues in the manufacture history.

Oh

BTW, just had someone with an LB7, who cured his overheat problem with these mods.

Mitchagain. Needle never moved from 200, was seeing over 230 before.

I pulled 12,000+ all the time in hot summer weather 70-90 degrees. Never overheated. My fan comes on quite a bit. I didn't even overheat climbing up grades of 15-20%, VT hills, having it matted at 2500 rpms the entire time in 85 degree weather. Although my transmission hit 210 degree for the first time.
