Well, the heat of Las Vegas has fried my EDGE. It shut down on me while towing my Toy Hauler. The EDGE Attitude went blank and the edge shut down my truck while in the middle of an intersection. Talk about a nerve-wracking experiance. I finally had to unhook all of the computer leads and then hook them back up. But after that, every time it got over 105° the edge would shut down while the engine/air cond was runnig. This is not good. Thank god that EGDE customer service is good. They want to replace my programmer for free. I cant tell how glad I am about this. Thou I dont know if I will run another edge on my ride. I do miss the power. I'm more inclined to go over to the other side (Banks). I'd bet theirs dosent shutdown because of the heat.

I've ran mine in hot climates with the engin compartment smoking hot. Actually I think plowing snow the or just running in the winter yield hotter engine bay than summer with no winter cover. I've seen well over 100*(via the mirror) plowing snow in the middle of a storm :Insane: I wouldnt worry.

Here in Las Vegas, just last week we had temps over 115°. That means that the ground temp was around 130°. Having the Air running and engine heat plus what-else caused my edge to fry.

115? pffft, but its the dry heat:rolleyes: :joke:

I really think you just had a box crap out on you, dont think they normaly die at that temp but I duno? Havent heard of many other guys having heat related probs?

I think your EDGE is a little defective...If the heat didnt melt other wires and plastic components then EDGE shouldnt have failed...I would stick with EDGE.

There are alot of people on here in hot climates that have boxes under the hood and never had any issues with them..I understand you live in Vegas but the heat there is actually different from all other places, hot and dry, no humidity. I think like Rat said you just got a bad box, get another one install it and go from there. No need to bad mouth a box from one bad experience...

towing through AZ, NM and TX during the middle of summer and heat ranging from 100 to 114 *, AC full blower, stop and go, etc never had a problem in three years. have also spent time in deserts and winching other vehicles under the same conditions, no problems and box was very hot to the touch.

where is it mounted ? i would not hesitate to run it again if I had it to do again.

I bet it frying might have something to do with it being under the hood, maybe it was mounted to close to a source of heat. The banks is also a great box (i have one) it mounts under the dash so you wont ever have any problems with the heat.

I think the Edge is a very good product, you probably just got a defective one or mounted it too close to a heat source. Take the new box and install it, if you still have problems maybe you should switch to banks.

Wahoo...well I am not happy it happened to you but my unit did the EXACT same thing. I was out in Laughlin, NV this weekend and it was a 117 out. I was at the Mobil station in Bullhead City gassing up my skiis and my truck died. I thought my wife did it....NOPE. Truck just turned over and the edge was black on teh screen no boot up screens like normal. I gave it a couple of minutes then bang she fired right up all looked normal 2 minutes later she died. I checked the edge and it was black again no boot up. I opened my hood and put my hand on the unit which is on the drivers side velcro'd to the fuse box top and YAAA HAWWW!!!! IT was SMOKIN hot...I ended up simply disconnecting the entire unit and going back to stock (SUCKS I nOTICED A DIFFerence right away). Truck was fine the rest of the weekend. Well it looks like i am giving Edge a call to get my unit replaced. Here's my shot to see if all I hear about their customer service is true.

Could have been a crap unit....but heat could have too...I can't see any better place to mount this pup and if I could on the inside I would....

Anyhow I am relieved to find im not alone.... I love the programmer but this has me a bit worried..I dont want a repeat I hope it was a fluke. (<-crap unit).

That's where I had mine set at. On top of the fuse box. I called John @ DPS (John@ DPS) which is where I bought mine. He sent one out and on friday I put the new one on. I never thought that I would miss something that bad. I went to the local speed shop and got a Fiberglass wrap that goes around the whole edge and wrapped it in it. I hope that helps.

Same thing happend to me on sunday. pulling 7000 pounds up 10% 15 mile grade half way up just died. trying to hold the load from going back down the hill was a chore in its self truck fired back up but guage was dead. finished pulling up the top of the mountain and pulled over and tried to reset everything just by turning the truck on and off again was able to get the chip going again but not the guages. half way down the otherside guages came back on. seems to be ok now. called Erin up at edge products and he said that they have had few boxes having problems with shutting down with heat problems. He said there will be a new version out in two weeks so I will wait to send mine in for a couple weeks. The new version is for the LB7.

Wyomax-

I heard the same thing...a newer version is coming out to address it but in the mean time they did say to try to relocate the box on the inner fender well instead of the fuse box. When you shut ur hood the insulation on top covering the unit doesnt help either. I am going to look for another spot with access to some air flow. It isn't the cure but it will help in the mean time.

I put mine on the side of the fuse box, it gets hot there also. I am on my third unit for all different reasons, one reason was for heat, "cank but no start". I would have to say heat is problem for these boxes....kind of like 'those who have and those who will' have a problem. With this being said the customer service is fabulous at Edge.

Let us know how the wrap works out. Is it like a header wrap?

My LLY edge has a box readout that tells you how hot the box is under the hood. Does the LB7 have this option?

The LB7's units do not from what I heard but it's coming. They need to address the heat issue or find a optimal place to mount that allows the unit to cool. Behind the drivers side head lights? Should work as the intake is on the opposite side sucking air.

i must have had one of those "bad boxes" too because mine took a shat on me a month ago(same problem...heat). called edge and they replaced it for free. no problems with the new box yet.

i also live in vegas

I had to tie mine to the radiator hose to get it to work below 23*f.

It's still tied to a 200* raditor hose right now and works fine, actually forgot to move it since summer is here.

I have run mine for a couple of years without any problems here in vegas, at least without any problems that I think are it. Before it started getting really hot here mine shut off on my sitting at an intersection, as soon as I touched the acclerator pedal. It restarted immediatly then I tried to go again, and it shut off again. The second time worked good, and haven't had any problems since then. One thing I did notice later on was the hourmeter reset, so I don't think it was the edge doing it. I don't have a attitude monitor and mine sits between the batt and the fuse box.

Never have had any problems with mine and I have towed over some pretty hot miles. I used to have the box tyrapped to the support brace that is just behind the fuse box. It is currently just setting on the hydroboost brake unit since I installed the autometer gauges. I think when I coiled up the pyro wires for both the edge and analog gauge I got things a bit short for the support brace and thats where it just landed.

I have had the same exact problem as Bowtie. Twice with my 4.71 Juice and 1.0 Attitude, and twice more with my two-week old 4.81 Juice and 1.5 Attitude. Edge also told me they have a fix in the works. I have my box tied to the wiring harness at the firewall, and I'll be moving it ASAP. In the meantime, I'll watch agressive moves in traffic after the engine has heat soaked.

BTW, I am located in Tucson........

afp1 did it reset your hourmeter too? That is what I found wierd and how I figure it isn't the box.

Bowtie,

I don't have an hour meter. However, tomorrow I am going to remount the Juice in the coolest spot I can find.

afp1, everybody has an hour meter. Hold down the trip odometer button for about 5 seconds with the key off and your engine hours will appear in the odo window.
