I have 3500 but with 2500 alloys. I tow a lot with this truck. I bought this thing used and now coming to understand that the OEM wheels were probably steel and 7 in wide. With being said, are steel wheels rated higher than alloys? Is that why the 3500 come with steel to begin with?

If steel wheels are rated higher, then why do most tractor trailers have aluminum on the tractor?
The Alcoa forged aluminum wheels are built very stout and stand up to a lot of abuse. I prefer steel wheels, especially for off road adventures. Most of the aluminum wheels you see in the aftermarket are cast, not nearly as strong as forged. Cast=cheap, in most cases.
