Here is a break down of what needs to be done to fit factory Hummer H2 take offs with the factory center caps.
Now I liked the looks of the H2 take offs and wanted to run the factory center caps. So I did the next step of searching through the threads for pictures and asked the right questions of if they would fit and what it took for them to fit. I got the usual answers of "ya they fit, see my garage pictures" and "a little grinding is required"... well the details were left out!
First off you do need to modify the cap to make them fit with out hassle and that factory center cap lip on the rim needs to be removed a bit for an even nicer fit. Well I removed the entire lip on the rim first, thinking the cap will fit without problems. It fit all right, but would not thread onto the lug nuts. So hence the cap modification. Sorry I didn't take pictures of the rim during machining process, but I did during the cap modification.

You need to cut 3/8" off the lip from the cap but not touch the stand offs. Remove the lip by cutting the stand off reinforcement flashing with diagonal cutters and pull off the lip. Next is to cut down the stand off to where it is about 3/16" above the newly cut cap lip. This will allow you to install the removed hard plastic stand off insert to make the cap clear the 3/8" radius of the rim and allow about 4/5 threads of lug cap nut contact.
Now if your interested in this mod but don't have the machinery to do it, PM me for a quote and see if it worth your while.

it must be a difference between chevy and gmc caps, because i've put my gmc ones on with no problems it just threaded on.

Are your stock caps off the chrome steel wheels or aluminum PYOs ?

From what information I could find the steel wheel caps need more taken off for the black nut caps to grab properly, the aluminum PYO caps only need the black standoffs removed.

The H2 caps require wheel spacers to fit on the rears as the axle hub sticks out, the fronts fit with no issues.

08 center caps fit with no modifications required, see my garage.

I have both sets of chrome caps from steel wheels and aluminum PYO's. Both caps have the same stand off hieght even the set of painted WT caps are the same stand off hieght. As for the Chevy to GMC difference they are the same cap just a different glue on center piece, I double checked that with my set to my neighbors.
Unless there is a difference in H2 rims ( mounting pad thickness) or the lug nut face are not recessed like mine, the caps would not fit.
Now if you are cutting/grinding the cap to make the diameter smaller to clear the factory cap snap ring flange. Then you are also shortening the overall height of the cap and this will allow the cap thread onto the studs.

i got the stock h2 caps on mine but the rear needed a small 4.5in. hole cut in the center to clear hope to get 2010 caps before i repaint the rims

I have the hummer rims and didn't have to do anything to get my PYO center caps to work. Just installed them normally w/ no modifications.

My center caps fit my H2' nicely without trimming of the cap (alumium stock wheels), Now I did receive some more caps that were from a chrome steel Chevy wheel and the cap is too deep and too wide like the Op's cap. It is my understanding that if yo have Aluminum PYO's no mod will be needed other then removal of the standoff if u want too. My black caps grap well even with the standoffs on.

Not to resurrect an old thread but this is a helpful post so I figured I would add to it after hitting this problem myself with the H2 rims. There is a diameter difference between at least some of the center caps on the alloy wheels and the ones on the steel wheels for 2001 pickups. I've attached a photo of the two side by side so you can see the difference. The smaller cap is on the right. You can tell the difference for the smaller ones because the overall diameter is less than the bolt circle and the cap has raised areas around the edge for each bolt unlike the larger one where the outside is completely smooth. The smaller diameter fits in the H2 wheels with no problems where the ones from the steel wheels will need the modifications dhjunkie described.http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k224/firetechie/truck/P1010439.jpg

The H2 rims all will have a little "cut out" around the inside lip where the center cap won't cover it, correct? The rims look nice, but I don't want to have those gaps there.

I used PYO caps and pulled off the Black pins snipped the plastic hole down flush with a pair of dikes and put the pins back in. They grab the threads nice on both sets as I swap back and forth from summer to winter. I think the black plastic pins protect the finish on the wheel.

I replaced the painted steel wheels with Hummer wheels. I had to modify the center caps to fit. I used a belt sander and trimmed the O.D. down about 3/16", then faced off the bottom (removed pins) just a little bit. The area where I sanded down the O.D. is completely inserted into the wheel, so you can't see that there was any material removed. It worked out well, the cenetr caps "snap" in nicely, the plastic lugs don't even need to be more then finger tight. You can see pics in my garage.
