Hey guys,
My friend has an 04 that he has a problem with and the dealer can't figure it out and they just keep putting on parts - here's what is happening and what they have done so far:
They replaced the fuel filter housing and filter. Then they replaced both fuel lines still not it. When the truck gets to operating temp.210 you shut it off it looses its prime, and will not start. If you pump the filter then you get fuel into it then it starts. Then last time he drove it the computer shut him down- when u give it gas it cuts out. He could feather it and go 70 mph put your foot into it nothing. The dealer said its still doing the same thing not starting. O they replaced the ERG valve??? Too.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks

I guess there was a glow plug code but they replace that. I guess the dealer is stumped. What would keep fuel from getting to the filter? I was thinking the CP3 pump. Maybe he should try a lift pump. All I know is he is frustrated and needs his truck for his job. Keep the thoughts coming..

An air leak in one of the fuel lines would cause the fuel to not reach the filter.

When he has to prime it, open the bleed screw and make sure the fuel isn't aerated. If it's too aerated, the truck won't start, however.

Make sure when priming the pump gets hard. Check for fuel leaks at the water-in-fuel sensor, rubber hoses to the inj. pump and the fuel filter head itself.

Is it possible that it's not loosing prime and that the rail pressure is too low because of an injector/CP3 problem?

i have heard/seen the cooling plate for the FICM get pins holes in them and that will cause issues with a truck loosing prime
