i have some customers who are interested in setting up an allison behind non-duramax engines. other GM engines or non-GM, e.g. cummins, etc. obviously my main concern is the TCM controls. does anyone have any information on what exactly the TCM needs to see from the engine side in order to control the trans?

remapping the TCM parameters is not a problem with EFIlive or hpt. nor setting it up mechanically, i.e., changing the bellhousing or DS mods, that is not my concern. i can't change the operating system logic and don't know what the TCM requires to be tricked into thinking it is behind a running dmax and still operate properly.

any help from someone who has (or knows someone who has) actually set up something like this successfully will be greatly appreciated.

thanks, that helps. but i am not looking to pay someone $1600 for an OEM TCM + some wiring, i want to know what the TCM needs to see from the engine side so i can do it myself.

can't be much besides adding voltage, TPS and whatever other signal data is required to the trans harness and reprogramming the TCM. which maybe involves selecting a particular operating system and then just editing the parameters as usual.

but thank you for very much for that link, i doubt they would just tell me what i need to know since they are selling this as a product but at least now i know it's doable.

Well cheverolet puts the allison behind a 8.1L gasser, and they act considerably different than a d-max, so it can be changed....just not sure how

You would probably have to use the 8.1 converter if you aren't putting it in a diesel.

i did some testing with the controller on my own truck and it works great, you can adjust it to shift exactly the way you want it to. Scott(destoked) has used his controller on swaps with allisons many times.

someone i know in europe with a cummins decided to wire it up himself and convinced himself it will work. i just remapped the TCM parameters as he requested and sent him the TCM to try out. hope he did his HW. if it works i will discuss the details. this is the 5-spd.
