I have had the TTS dual lift pumps installed for a few weeks and during the install I needed to remove the Nicktane CAT assembly as I did not like how I would need to re-plumb it with it in still located in the rear wheel well opening.
The best place for it was in front of the fuel cooler where many other members have mounted RACOR's, FM100's and there own custom filter setups. There are two factory holes in the frame to bolt a bracket which makes the install easier.
I stopped this past week and had my buddy at the welding shop cut and bent a piece of 3/8" thick plate steel, 4" wide with two bends in it. It fits on the frame rail on the outside and then bends in and across the top of the frame rail and then up again so the CAT head is high enough that when the filter is installed it does not hang below the frame rails.
I had drill it so I could mount everything. I had it made in two pieces, the main bracket and the stone guard bracket which is just a piece of 3/8" x 2" plate steel bent in a 90 degree angle as well..........I will be having him the welding shop cut and bend a piece if 1/4" steel plate to protect the front and bottom of the filter, I hope to get that done this week.
I also figured that since I needed to drop the tank for the TRIPPIN BILLET PICKUP install that I would go ahead and add the AN/Bulkhead fittings as well.......
I am glad that I upgraded the whole thing after seeing how restrictive the stock pickup and hose assembly really is as well as the Fuel Outlet on the sending unit ..........I now have 5/8" ID feeding fuel from the tank to the inlet on the TTS pumps with all smooth bends. The only place I have a sharp 90 degree fitting is the outlet of the second lift pump.......I had a straight AN fitting that would not work as the frame clearance was too tight. I am going to leave it the just the way it is.
I made the changes because I wanted the CAT filter ahead of the Lift Pumps so I maintain full pressure on the filters.
I spent the better part of this afternoon installing all my new fuel system components.........and I thought I would share the install with everyone.
And Diesel does make a good frame coating remover...........
