Max Payne 07-26-2005, 07:57 PM Fuel Injection Pump Removal
Remove the four fuel injection pump bolts.
Remove the fuel injection pump.
Max Payne 07-26-2005, 08:03 PM That was a copy and paste of the instructions that GM supplies us, and that was it, so it isn't much help obviosly. But you can see why GM only pays .3 to replace them):h Seriously, there are alot of steps. The timing cover doesn't have to come off, but the coolant x-over must be removed. You will have to swap over the pump adaptor and gear to the new one. I can't think of any special tools, but you will need several gaskets (x-over, bypass, coolant pipe, fuel line banjos) The pump only comes with o-rings, no gaskets. If you have any other questions, I will try to help. Just ask.
brad carlin 07-26-2005, 11:06 PM thanks max for the reply what goes bad inside the pump and can crap flow from there to the rails & injectors regards brad
Max Payne 07-27-2005, 10:11 AM I guess it could, but I have only replaced them for external leaks, so I can't answer that with much certainty.thanks max for the reply what goes bad inside the pump and can crap flow from there to the rails & injectors regards brad
brad carlin 08-01-2005, 05:59 PM thanks once again max fitted new pump trucks runs fine now. removed end plate and found one o-ring missing looks like it was never in there, 8 months of missery for one o-ring cheers brad
jgreenlees 08-02-2005, 12:46 AM Sorry max, BUT those of us that replace pumps never go from the front, Take out the cossover manifold remove the lower studs 12mm 1/4 in drive wobble four bolts, pump slides out, reinstall, less than 2 HRS.
Max Payne 08-02-2005, 09:43 AM Sorry max, BUT those of us that replace pumps never go from the front, Take out the cossover manifold remove the lower studs 12mm 1/4 in drive wobble four bolts, pump slides out, reinstall, less than 2 HRS. Luckily I haven't had to do many of them (3), but I will try your suggestion next time. Thank you for the constructive critisism.
jgreenlees 08-02-2005, 10:10 PM Sorry Max, did not mean it the way my post read. First one I did followed the BOOK and C####D the whole time, it was a jacked up truck. Next one got a cup of coffee and looked for a while. then tried something differrent and sent Dan Sylvester of G.M. a note. Do not know if you saw the original web based training Dan did. He had a lot of techs push the buttons and dissagree.
Max Payne 08-03-2005, 10:08 AM I have gotten over *****ing at GM, I realized I was wasting my time... they don't give a sh!t what we have to tell them. I just take it out on my co-workers):h
jgreenlees 08-04-2005, 12:30 AM MAX, sorry, but the people I deal with in G.M. TAC and MOSTLY medium duty, same duramax, same trans, REALLY listen and take notes. On the FLEET side we see problems before light duty. Fleets rack up mileage quick. The biggest problem is the LEGAL department at G.M. to put out a P.I. or TSB, that everybody out there says (it applies to my truck), When it doesn't. The Tim Allen wannabes that JUICE and Banks need to change their fuel filters and air filters more often and add the additives. My fleet customers change oil (6,000Miles) do not care about light. Every other oil change is fuel filter and allison spin on. 24,000 drain trans and diff. OVERKILL????? 99.9% of my fleet accounts have never seen a tow truck!!!
Try telling John Q customer service your truck, and you get I SPENT 50 GRAND on this, and now I have to do this and that and add something because fuel is?????? IT'S warranty fix it!!! After 35 years and 14 apprentices, I still SMILE and say NO
socaldieseltech 08-04-2005, 01:00 AM jgreenlees, which dealer do you work at?? Were you working at Victor GMC a while back?
jgreenlees 08-05-2005, 12:11 AM Yes
jgreenlees 08-05-2005, 12:23 AM On THIS forum, I do not tell anybody where I am!!!!!
socaldieseltech 08-05-2005, 12:35 AM Right on, I figured as much. Don't worry, I know where you are if anyone wants to know. Techs like MaxPayne have been on here for quite a while and have helped alot of people. He deserves more respect than what you have shown him. I have heard that you are a decent tech but have a bad attitude and don't play well with others. I have fixed many trucks that VictorGMC could not, and this was not recent, it was a few years ago.
jgreenlees 08-05-2005, 12:54 AM I really like that quote, I do not play well with others, I (think?) I said that years ago. I still don't!! I fix trucks for a living. Some fleet accounts follow me. Max and I have (issues) with Correct information. If I am wrong, I will jump right up and admit it. When I am correct, I will post.
socaldieseltech 08-05-2005, 01:02 AM ...
socaldieseltech 08-05-2005, 01:04 AM 10-4 Bud.
Max Payne 08-05-2005, 11:30 AM jrgreenlees, sounds like you need a vacation and some therapy. You have been a complete prick on this board. I can tell you have been permanently disgruntled by years and years of taking it in the butt from GM. Deal with it. Get an attitude adjustment or go play someplace else.

socaldieseltech 08-06-2005, 12:12 PM To: socal, Have you started your new shop?
I REALLY HATE STUPID QUESTIONS!!!!!!!
socaldieseltech 08-06-2005, 12:14 PM socal, did you work at Victor with Kevin(pigpen)
Negative, never worked at Victor. They told me what they were paying their techs there and I couldn't work for that. But they tried to get me to go over there.
socaldieseltech 08-06-2005, 12:16 PM )
Do you still have Jays tire guage
Yes I sure do, its sitting on my desk. Do you need it? CID', next time you are at the shop make sure you grab it from me, I know you see Jay sometimes or at least you are closer to him. I offered to mail it to him, he said "no, I will just grab it from you at the next event" I have been at every DHRA event since and have not seen him.
