The other day I was at the gas station getting fuel and I checked my oil and went inside for some snacks. While paying my wife runs inside telling me the truck made a loud metalic bang and sounded like it came from the engine and she turned the truck off. I am imediatly panic'd thinking my truck just blew up. I go outside and look under the truck to see if any oil or parts are laying on the groung, Nothing. So I start it expecting some bad noises, Nothing. So I leave it running and open the hood, I throw the thing open expecting it to stay open and the damn thing about hits me in the head. ( I thinking what the f%ck) So I tell the o'l lady to help hold the hood open and I climb up on the passenger side tire cause I'm a stubby b@st@rd right were I was standing while I checked my oil and I looked at the hood hinge and I see no spring, I finally found it down along the side of the battery and that was what made the bang that she heard. I'm releaved nothings wrong with my truck besides a lousy hood hinge, luckily that thing came just a few seconds after I checked the oil or I may have gotten some broken ribs.

Yeah, my passenger side spring broke also. Hood was closed and driving down the road. Thought the guy next to me hit me. Replaced under warranty.
maybe we can start a thread on investigating why the springs break.

I picked up my truck last week. Now that I'm reading this that has happened, I think that happened to my truck. My hood is shut my doesn't stay as tight as should be.

If the spring is broken the hood won't stay open. If the hood is not as "tight" as it should be, then you need to adjust the rubber bumpers with the build in screw on each side on the front.

Yup...my passenger side spring broke too...but not just randomly. Heres how mine broke so none of you make this mistake):h : SES light was on and truck had no power (called OnStar, guy said something about fuel rail pressure/emissions controls...what the rail and EGR? have in common, Ill never know) so when I got home, I thought it might be the Edge. Popped hood, unplugged Edge and let wires from it dangle down into the serp belt area. Cycled key 50 times, but light didnt go out. So I thought well ill try again in the morning. I didnt close the hood so I would remember to get the Edge wires out of the serp belt area. But as im going inside, I think "well what if it rains...". So I make a compromise with myself. I shut the hood but dont latch it:badidea: . Well as anyone can guess, I came out the next morning to go to work and didnt give one thought to the hood (the shape of the hood on the 2005's doesnt really show if its popped from the drivers seat). I had a 20 foot flat bed landscaper's trailer hooked up and when I reached 30 mph, the hood reminded me that it was not latched with a big WHUMP!! I slammed on the brakes as quickly as I could and luckilly stopped in time before the hood bent BACK on the hinges (even tho I had the trailer hooked up...thanks Prodigy brake controller!). Well as you can imagine I was a little flustered. Passenger side hinge was all bent and spring broke off, but the drivers side hinge/spring was fine. I unbolted the hood, bent the hinge temporarrily and closed the hood (but the hood/fender gap was about 1/4 inch bigger on the passenger side...) and continued on to work. Heres the kicker tho...after the hood flew up and i got out, when I got back in the driver seat, SES light was out!!! See now i KNOW it just came on to cause trouble and once it succeeded in wrecking my day it said "heehee" and blinked off. Oh well...DONT FORGET TO CLOSE YOUR HOODS!!!!! Sorry for the long story:)
