: Do you run H2 rims on your truck?
GMC2500HD 01-14-2004, 11:41 PM WHY DO YOU DO THIS?????
Those rims are made for an H2.
I know I will get some people made but I am just curious? Thanks
3500dmax 01-15-2004, 12:16 AM Ok, I'll be the first to bite...
Which is built on a chassis that resembles a SUV or truck more so than the Hummer brand, so who cares!Edited by: y2kboti
Micheal Tomac 01-15-2004, 12:42 AM they're cheap $200 for a set of 4 rims 17" aluminum rims
NCMax 01-15-2004, 07:10 AM Because the stock wheels look like they fit a Honda Civic!!!
... and at $125 for a set of four brand new take-offs, I figger'd I couldn't go wrong (just the wheels - I'm running 265x70-17 Bridgestone Revos).
:-)
Dmax Tim 01-15-2004, 08:59 AM WHY DO YOU DO THIS?????
Those rims are made for an H2.
WHY NOT ???????????
2MuchFun 01-15-2004, 09:02 AM I did it for the tires.
I paid $500 for the set which were already mounted and balanced! Thats a steal when you cosider the price of these tires and the cost of having them mounted/balanced, etc. taxes.
BTW, the H2 Rims fit Perfectly on the hub of our trucks and you dont even have to use different lug nuts AND the GM cap goes right on. ~~Who says they were'nt made for this axle?
I am not interested in them because they are very heavy and add significant unsprung weight.
4x4man 01-15-2004, 09:15 AM I would like to do it, but am concerned with how they will effect towing and shift points, etc. I tow an ~10,000lb 5er and need to make sure I get to the lake BEFORE my buddy with the 6.0 PSD does!! Maybe later.. sigh..
Bob
Dmax Tim 01-15-2004, 09:30 AM Any time u go bigger tires and wider wheels u get more weight.
I change mine around all the time and don't recall much difference in weight but I'm used to throwing on 24.5 steel budds w/ tires.
I seem to recall that the PY0 forged wheel weighs around 19 lbs and the H2 cast wheel weighs over 40 lbs. I have my original PY0 with the original Flintstones, and I got a set of take off PY0 wheels for my winter Nokian snows. But I am not interested in going larger than 265/75-16
EnerMax 01-15-2004, 12:35 PM Because I like them and I'm different than you...and don't worry, you won't get me 'made' http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
Camstyn 01-15-2004, 12:43 PM Are you sure the H2 wheels are cast? I was told they're forged.
Chevysrus 01-15-2004, 02:25 PM Forged are stronger than cast, would think they were forged.
NCMax 01-15-2004, 03:02 PM With 265-x70-17s, the weight difference isn't that great. The look and ride were worth it to me. Heck, with the Chevy center caps they look better on my truck than they do on a Hummer!Edited by: NCMax
I REALLY like the way the H2 wheels look, especially the chromed version.... and I'm fairly certain they are forged.

I pull a 10,000 lb 5er behind mine, I also have a Quad 110 hp tuner (which I use to correct the speedo, and tow in the 70hp tune)...there is not a stock 6.0L PSD that can touch me towing up any hill. Just ask the guy towing 4 snowmobiles who tried to take me pulling Donner Summit.....all he saw was taillights...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
Lonewolf867 01-15-2004, 04:03 PM WHY??
BECAUSE STOCK SUCKS!!!!http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif
The H2 is made on a 2500 GM frame so they fit fine. If you are worried about shift points then go with a smaller tire. One that has the same diameter of the stockers. You will get better looks and no concerns.
Just my 2...
Mike
2MuchFun 01-15-2004, 04:19 PM Someone who drives a 7000+ truck is worried about maybe 100 or so Lbs. of extra unsprung weight? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Stern Smile.gif
Camstyn 01-15-2004, 05:00 PM Rotating weight makes quite a bit more difference than carrying weight, I can see his point there but we've got more than enough engine to turn it!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
VFRRider 01-15-2004, 05:35 PM The H2 wheels are forged by Alcoa. Weigh 34lbs. 315's weigh 64lbs. Weighed on shipping scales, have original Alcoa shipping boxes on rims, forged.
Mike
I was pretty darn sure that they were forged... Thanks for clearing it up VFRider...

Are you a biker too Lonewolf? From the above quote, you think like one.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
I actually like the looks of the PYO's, I just would like to have them a little wider, such as 7.5"-8" wide. I have been seriously considering the H2's. What are the possibilities of Alcoa making the wheels that look like the PYO's only wider? For all I know, they are out there, I just haven't seen them.
GMC2500HD 01-15-2004, 06:53 PM I was just curious about this. I had 2 H2's last year and had several people offer to buy my wheels and tires off my rigs. I personally do not like the look but to each his/her own. Did not want to offend anyone. Thanks for the replies.
Cruz_Man 01-15-2004, 09:05 PM Can the H2 Rims fit on a 2 wheel drive?
NCMax 01-15-2004, 10:08 PM Do you have the standard 8-lug wheels? If so, they oughta fit.

Mike
I believe you are talking about the optional H2 wheels, and I agree "they" are forged, but the standard Silver/Aluminum or ones that have been chromed are cast.
Lonewolf867 01-15-2004, 10:47 PM flhrciblueice..A biker? ...no worse..I am also an ATV addict! I thought running an ATV website and racing the quads were bad...Then I got the dmax to haul them and found yall...Now I am permanently in the doghouse! The wife ain't real happy with the list of goodies I have for the dmax sitting beside the list of goodies for the quad..
But after 15 years of marriage she is starting to understand that the saying "STOCK SUCKS" is actually in my DNA! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Heck even my boys have this disease. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

What he said. Hummer dealer 2 miles from work. You can't touch the price why not. I haven't seen another truck in my area with'em...I guess that makes me special.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Here is my support for saying the H2 wheels are cast. I can find numerous other sites via google that say they are cast.

8.1GASSER 01-16-2004, 02:26 PM Guys heres a pic of the "forged" H2 wheel, not the ones most of us are running.

By using H2 rims you drop your GVW from 9200 to 8600. That's the GVW of an H2.
How's everybodies chromed H2 wheels holding up?
Mine are going down hill real fast. Pitting like crazy in the NE salt.

I gotta call B.S.
What is the rating of the H2 rim? I know the 'D' H2 tires are actually rated higher than the 'E' tires that came on my truck. I Seriously doubt the H2 rims are rated any less than the stock aluminum rims that came on my truck.
The GVW of the Hummer H2 itself is irrelevent.
2K2AD 01-16-2004, 04:43 PM Mike,
The first set I bought pit within a couple of weeks. Called the guy back who sold them to me and he shot me another set fast. This set seems good so far. No salt on the roads for the first set to pit, a little down now. Good luck!
Kevin

I could be off but does GM put stuff on that exceeds recommendations?

Well, maybe....look at the Ally 1000...as we all know it can take a bit more than the stock Dmax can put out.

And what about that 11.5" ring gear. I wonder how much torque it would take to break that?

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Sorry to hear that. If you don't mind my asking,
did you get them from Fleet Auto in Kalifornia?
Seems they're always advertising sets on E-bay.
Triple plated, etc,etc...
Thanks for any info,
T.
NCMax 01-16-2004, 09:03 PM Gents, If you go to Hummer's home page - www.hummer.com (http://www.hummer.com) - then click on H2 - then click on Features - you'll see that Hummer lists the wheels as "17" cast aluminum".
Camstyn 01-17-2004, 12:00 AM Man, for the price you've gotta pay for one of those H2's you would think it would at least come with forged wheels like our 2500HD's do.
2MuchFun 01-17-2004, 09:22 AM OH, the wheels that came stock on our trucks are Forged?
Regardless, Im quite confident that the H2 setup can handle as much as the trucks GVW or CVW.
No mine weren't from Fleet. They were from a local dealer.
Tony... yours were not from the same place. Your's came out of California.
You guys are right about the Allison and the rear. Didn't mean to get you in a tiff. I guess I was referring to smaller items like stock tire sizes, tailgate cablles, fuel filters, bed sheet metal, underhood light (lack of) and so on.
8.1GASSER 01-17-2004, 03:46 PM Hoot, not in a tiff at all, and agree with the crappy quality of the items you mentioned.

8.1GASSER,
I got ahold of the wheel guy today. He's looking into it Monday to see what he can do.
8.1GASSER 01-17-2004, 06:47 PM Hoot, thats cool, if you can, see where exactly the outsourced the chroming from, just curious.
