Has anyone weighed their 28RK? I'm about to buy one and want to
be sure that I won't exceed the GVWR on the TV. Assuming that
brochure data is in the ball park, I should be fine. I would
prefer actual scale weight if someone has it.

I cannot help with the exact model you reference, but will add, do not trust the brochure weights. They are usually not close.

I went to the Forest River website and looked at the specs for the model you reference. The pin weight looks a little low for a trailer of that size.

I own a Komfort 26FS. Almost exactly the same layout as the Wildcat trailer you are looking at. The total length of my trailer is 28.5 ft. Spec wise, everything looked OK. But,,,, after weighing the whole set-up on a CAT scale here in SoCal, the truck is 200 pounds over GVWR and the trailer is approaching its max. The trailer had full water, clothing, groceries, etc,,,, stocked for a weeks trip.

With the truck in my signature, with two adults, one dog, a tool box, full tank of fuel and the 5th wheel hitch installed, the truck weighed 7200 #'s. That leaves 2000#'s for the 5th Wheel pin weight. My trailer weighed in at approx 10800 #'s, with a pin weight of 2200#.

For your situation, you will most likely be really close too the max GVWR or slightly over. Its good you are thinking ahead. All RV's should be weighed and that info posted for the consumer when they buy it.

Well... we picked up the new 5er. The first stop after picking her up was the scales.

The last time I weighed the truck, with a full fuel tank and the family, it came in at 7360.

Same truck, same family :) , but with a Reese 16k slider and the Wildcat 28RK hitched, the truck axles add up to 8960, the trailer axles are 6740 (combined) and the GCW is 15700. The trailer had the battery and full propane.

Sunday morning when we head out loaded, I'm going to stop at the scales again to see what she weighs loaded for us to camp a couple weeks. I'll post later this month.

Congrats on the new trailer!! You'll will like the layout (its amazing when the slide extends).

You can see the weights are already off from the advertised weight (even unloaded). The Forest River website indicates 1100 pounds for pin weight, you measured (8960 truck axles - approx 150# 5th wheel hitch - 7360 dry truck = ) 1450 pin weight.

Load the trailer with everything you need (clothes, food, tools, TV, etc), add water if you dry camp and you will be near or slightly above the GVWR of the truck. Fortunately, you'll be under all your GAWR by a large margin. So, looks like your good to go!

Have fun!

I stopped at the scales on the way out of town but, just now got to a camp ground with WiFi.

With the trailer loaded for two weeks camping, full fresh water, and with 10 gallons spare fuel and two tool boxes in the bed it came out to 4460 on the steer axle, 4880 on the drive axle, 7760 on the trailer axles, and a GCW of 17100.

This comes out to the truck axles carrying 9340. Assuming 150 for the hitch, 100 for the tools and 62 for the spare fuel, that would make the pin weight (loaded) about 1668.

I have since moved the tools into the storage area of the trailer, but the fuel remains in the bed.

The truck performs and handles like a champ! Far more stable that it was pulling the travel trailer. Oh how I wish I'd gotten one of these fifth wheels first.

The Wildcat 28RK is awesome! A few minor glitches to work out but overall a fine rig.

I pull a '04 Wildcat 28BH, single slide, it weighs 8660 lbs w/ no water and all the junk a family can stuff in it.
