There has been a recall for the hydro boost switch, I am not sure if this would have been replaced with the new pump. Both the PS and PB's work off of the PS pump. You know what normal is for YOU, not what GM is telling you. It could be the dealer is jocking you around. I am sure someone who is more familiar with this topic could share more light on the subject. I would highly recommend finding a new dealer. If you mention where you are at, someone may be able to point you towards some help.

Ask the dealer to either fix the problem or to PUT IN WRITING that everything is normal and working properly so that you'll have it well documented when there is an accident your dealer certified that your brakes and steering were just fine. Write this down and give your request to the dealer and let them know that you are also sending a copy to GM.

Find a new dealer. There are situations where your steering wheel will be hard to turn when your foot is on the brake but it should be short lived and very temporary. If it does it every time your foot is on the brake then you defiantely have problems.

I just encountered this same problem for the first time this weekend. I have an '02 Durmax 35K miles. 70% pulling either a trailer or boat. Never had an issue until this weekend backing trailer into a camp spot. Had foot on the brake and steering wheel hard over. Steering wheel and brake shuddered and some noise under the hood, then felt like manual steering. Have not taken in to the dealer yet (figure they will do nothing, charge me, then give the run around). My buddy also mentioned the Hydro boost sw? What are the symptoms if this were to fail?

my symptoms where no power steering and a muchy brake pedal.

now if the dealer or gm says this is normal would it be worth it to contact the nhtsa since this is a safty problem? does anyone think they could do something?

If it's the pump, the brakes will be hard, not mushy.

Is this a once in a while problem at idle or an all the time problem? Mine does it once in a while but I consider that normal for a hydro boost system. It's always at idle and its always with my foot on the brake and turning the wheel. Air on etc.
