Friend has a 2010 LMM and is looking for a economy EFI live tune while keeping warranty. so a second ECM is what he needs. found this site, anyone order from here? seems suprizingly cheap, no?

Are ppl having luck with just swapping the stock ECM's for dealer work? heard of reports that GM is now checking torque input in the TCM. How many ppl are being denied warranty cause of ECM flashes even if they swap the stocker back in?

Although definitely harder to trace, GM can still find out if it's been tuned by other parameters, max Torque in TCM, # of regens stored in ECM, any of these #'s out of whack, red flag! Today, you pay to play, don't expect GM to warranty your D-max/Allison if you tune it. Now the rest of the truck, IMO, should still be covered under warranty, tune or not. So yes, harder to trace with separate ECM, but not impossible if GM wants to know for sure. Chris

GM does store the peak torque value in the TCM. I have TCMs as well. :D

Check car-part.com and find a local auto wrecker around that may have one. Probably the cheapest way to do it I would think.

Hmmm....

I am looking for a spare ECM for my '08 guys. I would like to keep my stock ECM stock and use the SPADE/DSP5 to load onto a new ECM.

1) Can I just install a new "clean" ECM and plug-n-play with the SPADE to get up and running ?

You can get ECMs from different tuners like Nick and Rob. Tyler should be able to cover you on that. A blank ECM will just need to be full flashed with the Spade. The only thing I am not sure is if the Autocal/Spade does injector flow rate programming which is what seems to be needed on the LMM Bosch ECMs. To understand that better look at the sticky post of mine at the top of the EFILive section. In there is some instructions on programming the injector flow rate. Give tyler a call on that to find out. post back or PM me if it can be done on the Autocal/Spade or if necessary on the LMM blank ECM.

Dude... You're EVERYWHERE ! :D

I was hoping to save a few bux by buying one and doing it myself but if that's not a DIY easy-thing then I'll have Tyler do it. I'm kinda' torn about the whole new ECM thing. I mean.... I've already shot my warranty after I install a tune, play-n-pay. I'm at the dollar point where I have to decide spare ECM or CTS..

I wish I had the money tree my wife uses... uh... wait a minute..

THAT'S ME.....

I know. Just bored tonight I guess. To long of a day of not getting anything done at work. Full flashing the ECM is no issue with the Autocal or the Flashscan V2. Just know more about the Flashscan V2. Not had a chance to handle the Autocal yet.

Nice read but I would like to hear from a GM tech who has run across this issue first hand. No, not a lube tech but a real GM master. Working on a truck and know that it has outside influence tuner ect but no proof? The number of regens is all I could see in reality with a spare ecm but even then denying warranty on the number of regens is a stretch. I see no other way for detection in moderate cases. I am not talking about wide open tunes on a otherwise stock truck.

If you are implying I am a lube tech You are very much mistaken obviously you didn't read the complete document and posts,It doesn't take a half a brain to understand simple facts are facts and reality and General Motors Corporation pays the Dealer for any warranty claims and If General Motors is not paying the dealer than the dealer is not and will not help you or anybody else for that matter to fix your vehicle if your vehicle has a repair that will cost dollars and has been programmed cut and dried the dealers hands are tied.
But by any means go ahead and do it.Best of luck.

Back er down. I do not know who you are period. Comment was not stated at anyone. I have no idea if you are a diesel tech or work at something else??? All I was saying is I wanted to hear from tech's who have seen this first hand. Are you a tech who has seen this first hand if so you never mentioned that and being I do not read minds puts us on two different pages. Either way it was a good read and I was just looking for a real life example of warranty with a spare ecm.

Fair enough although it seemed directed Let me put it to you this way the dealership owner, service manager, dealer tech hands are tied when it comes to any major powertrain warranty repair/claims as a tech2 snapshot of the ecm calibration/cvn numbers and the TCM torque/hp values as well, has to be submitted and approved first by the GM warranty managers/reps before any repairs will be approved for payment to the said dealership.
