I am new to diesel engines and now that I drive one I was curious about the whole water in fuel issue. Why is it so much more of an issue with diesel motors? I know it is not good in gas either but it seems from what I read that diesel must protect from the water more. What causes the water issue, is it the fuel itself or something? Thanks

Diesel fuel absorbs water when exposed to air. Diesel engines use the lubricity of the fuel to lubricate the fuel pump and injectors. Even a little water can cause serious damage because it washes away the lubrication.
