When my 2004, 2500HD has been sitting for 3 or more days and I start it and put it in gear, it takes 10 to 15 seconds before the transmission engages. If I run it daily, it engages immediately. My GMC dealer says this is normal. It seems like an internal leakdown problem to me. Any body else experience this?

:wtf1: Join date is July 2005 and your first post is this? What kind of 2500hd do you own? A Dodge or a Ford?

What year is your truck? This was common on some of the older trucks, the newer ones have a drain back valve to prevent this from what I understand. I believe there might have been a tsb for this but I am not positive. The transgo shift kit has a fix for this as well.

Some customers may comment that the transmission slips, has a delayed engagement, or cold hesitation on the first start-up after sitting for a period of time.

Cause
Torque converter bleed down over an extended period of non-usage, usually over a week, may cause this condition.

Correction
Use the service procedure shown below to access and change the torque converter relief spring and lube regulator spring in the front support assembly.
