Aloha....

Thanks GMCSID for the VIN Check.
You guys are awesome...definitely the most knowledgeable and thorough group I have ever come across on the net.
I am closing a deal on a 2001 CC 4X4 2500HD Silverado LT... stock. Odometer = 23,819 miles.
Looks like I'll go ahead and pull the trigger! :eek:Seems like a good deal @ about $28K. And I actually prefer the older GM front end when compared with the new "Squinted Eye" look....just my own personal preference, not passing any judgements here. I know I could get a new one for about $10K more or so with the Employee Pricing deal...but I would rather spend that cash on some serious mods.
Yes...I do live in Hawaii part-time. This truck is located in Salt Lake City and I plan to use it at my other home near Idaho.
One quick question to you guys if you don't mind....should all these horror stories about injector problems deter me from this Duramax? This truck was literally owned by an elderly couple and saw little use. It is in super clean condition.
I also own a 2000 Silverado 1500 4x4 Ext Cab 5.3L gasser here in Hawaii...tricked out with a small lift and a Whipple Supercharger. It's been great for about 50,000 miles now. Hope this 2001 Duramax is just as reliable.
I look forward to using these forums again in the near future.
Mahalo Nui Loa (Thank you very much in Hawaiian)

Hi Aloha,
I'm a newbie here but I might as well pipe in anyway. I've got a black 2001 Duramax with 66,000 miles on it and no problems up to this point. As you, I like the 2001 front end treatment. My wife drives it also and we both love it. It's loaded with everything and I've got to say it's just one sweet truck.
As far as problems are concerned if you go to a Ford forum they will talk about problems, if you go to a Dodge forum they will talk about problems, etc, etc. All vehicles have their unique set of problem areas. That's the nature of things mechanical.
FWIW, up to this point I'm VERY happy with our 2001 Duramax.:D

Best, John

$28k sounds on the high side. I'm not really up on the values in the US right now but with all the current promotions on new it is definately a buyers market. Have a look around and see what similar vehicles are selling for. I would think you should be able to pick that up for low 20's but I might be wrong.

Thanks for the input guys.
Please excuse the late reply...but it's 9:00 PM here in AlohaLand...probably much later up there on the mainland. You're right Diesel Addict.... Low 20's would probably be more realistic...especially with a brand new one going for about $38K and change. But like I said before... the extra cash could help me add some of those great mods like your truck has. I did do a KBB Private Party Value and it came in right @ $27,930.00. Must be the super low miles. After an exhaustive search of used Dmax's across the mainland USA ....it appears that all the ones in the low 20's had way higher miles. I know mileage is not a major issue on a diesel...but I'm thinking about just general wear & tear on the entire truck. And I totally agree with you Stepdad....Dodge, Ford, Chevy... whatever...all things mechanical have issues.
Aloha.

Sorry...I'm a newbie to forums in general. I should have directed that comment to Max Power...not Diesel Addict. My bad.

Aloha, Welcome the the Place.

Hmmmm, Salt Lake? Isn't that where Sp33d lives? Could be his old truck? 28K for an '01 is pretty high, even with 23K miles. That price is more '03 range.

I'd use Kelley Blue Book or NADA first, and find an approx value an negotiate from there.

Truck sounds very nice. My 02 is a great truck, love the (non avalanche)looks and it's at 142,000mi with only one problem,,transfer case had a hole and ran dry ...dealer replaced on thier dime at purchase. With the injector warranty extension you're pretty much covered.

Last year I got $22,000 on trade for an 01 GMC with 72,000 miles. I think 28,000 is high.

I would probably be lucky to get 18,000 on my old truck today.

28K is way too much. I paid 30K for my 02 1 year ago. Look around and find a better deal on a used one.

Thanks again to everyone. I did some more research and came up with the following values for this truck...including all options, plus camper shell, mileage adjustment, and zip code location.
Kelley Blue Book Private Party Value = $28,250.00
Edmunds True Market Value = $24,028.00
NADA Trade-In Value = $27,675.00 (which I thought was kinda high)
Maybe these "Guides" don't know there is an "Employee Pricing Deal" going on now? lol.
Anyhow...The VIN Check came out great. I'm probably gonna pull that trigger today and hope for the best. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I am looking forward taking part in more discussions later ...especially when I start adding some mods.
Aloha,
Kurt

I live out in the sticks and our town is a small town of about 5,000 folks. There is one new car dealer in town. I think 28K would be a good price in my small town. We paid 32K for our loaded Duramax. Mods? We've got the chrome treatment along the sides and chrome tube running boards. We also picked up some BFG Radial TA's at Costco. They look sweet on the truck. They don't make noise (can't hear 'em with that kick-ass stereo rockin' out):D and they ride nice.

Good luck, John

UPDATE.... Picked it up for $26K out the door and got the dealer to throw in a complete service that they do at 30,000 miles....including new fluids & filters. They also checked the injectors and verified that they qualify for the 200,000 mile extended warranty. Thanks again for all the input & I'll be seeing you all around the Diesel Place from now on.
Aloha,
Kurt

Was that a 2004 Crew Cab 4X4 ...leather and all the other stuff that goes with an LT?
If so...that's a pretty damn awesome deal!

I have a 01 Duramax and hav had since it had 5700 miles on it ,it now has 130,000 It is a Feb.01 truck ,I love it and have had good luck with it so far,It has jelled up on my below 5 degress from the fuel tank to the filter dealer could never find a problem ,still does it if I dont treat it when it gets that cold (GM recomends only the treatment that the fuel manufacturer puts in nothing more) and they replaced both head gaskets on it when it had 97,000 miles on it.It was using 2 quarts of coolant every 5,000 miles.I have replaced the switch on the tranny once a year from the time it was new.But despite the little quirks it had Id buy it again in a minuet!

The build date on this "new-to-me" Duramax was June 20, 2001. Delivery Date to the original & only other owner was 9/28/2001. Odometer reading now is 23,819 miles. The first thing I need to do is get it some "new shoes"...it still has the original stock 245s on it...boy do they look tiny. What is the largest size tires I can run without changing anything?
